Never has a game given such an accurate summary of itself in its own title, but still exceeded expectations. Sometimes you just NEED a game like this.

If you haven't watched a playthrough, don't spoil anything for yourself. It's a very short but very fun little experience. Easy to 100% but may leave you wishing for a bit more afterwards. Never before have I simultaneously overthought and underthought what I was doing the whole time.

It starts out as Subnautica, then changes into Nova Lands, and finally ends as cookie clicker. Not for everyone, but definitely made for me!

Sea of Stars manages to nail the classic RPG style while still feeling fresh and engaging. Damage and health values keep you feeling challenged and therefore engaging with the strategic elements feel rewarding. This way it does not fall into the situation of many old RPGs where you grind until overpowered and then battles become boring. Also, it has one of the best soundtracks, hands down!

Even with the gameplay constantly driven by a time limit, this is a surprising relaxing a chill experience. Though if you want a more challenging experience there are higher difficulty modes and modifiers to mix up the gameplay. It's basically a hybrid of Steamworld Dig and Kingdom, which works quite well. The minimalism lets you dive in without a bunch of obtrusive tutorials. Great time!

This game manages to be a fantastic relaxed semi-idle style game, perfect for unwinding after work without needing much dexterity, that still somehow hypes you up and gets your blood pumping. This is largely due to it's amazing soundtrack. Easily one of the best new VG soundtracks in years. Can't overstate how much I fell in love with this game.

The way this game jumps into the action but drip-feeds you story and characterization over time keeps you wanting to play just a little longer.
It also does a great job of being challenging without being overly frustrating. Supergiant has done an excellent job on this title and you can tell a lot of love went into it!

A fantastic equivalent to enjoying a "B-movie" in video game form. The gameplay will not really blow anyone away. However, this game is aware of what it wants to be and makes no apologies. The silly premise and so-bad-its-good voice acting are what make this game great. Best played with friends on the couch to enjoy just how ridiculous it all is.

Even though I've essentially made the same base 3 times in a row, something keeps pulling me back to this game when I'm in the mood for a crafting/survival game. In a way you have less freedom than other games that are similar, but what you do have is made so well that it's still often a better experience.

This game has style and atmosphere to spare. Highly recommended!

Sometimes the first time you play a game stands out in your memories. Whether it is for the quality of the game itself, the unique experience you had with the game, or something else the playing of that game represents in your life. For me, Aquaria was all three of those things.

I purchased Aquaria back in 2008 from its own website. Over 2 years before I started using Steam. I was mostly a console gamer back then. Aquaria was the first time I played a game that encapsulated what made many 2D adventure games great, while still being something original enough that it wasn't just a fan-game of an existing franchise. The most surprising was that it was not by one of those big companies. This was the first exposure I got to professional indie game development. (As in making and selling a product).

To many it may not look like anything that special when there are many 2D adventure/exploration games available. But I just want to say this game stands up. Moving around fluidly is a ton of fun. The voice acting is good. The world is beautiful and mysterious. Most of all, the music is AMAZING. Aquaria single-handedly made me pay attention to PC gaming and see that where there used to be bold lines dividing the styles of PC and console games in the past, these lines were dissappearing and now are pretty much gone.

I'm extremely sad that the spiritual sequel, Marion, has been put on indefinite hiatus. However, I won't stop singing praise for this wonderful indie gem.
