Look, I gave this game a shot. I really did, but after mining for 20 minutes and checking my inventory to see everything I had mined had vanished, I had to quit.

The bugs are early-access level and the constant network issues on private servers, often due to the studio not communicating the changes to the servers hosting their game in advance, means constant downtime. Bugs I faced:
- I'd exited my speeder only to find my movement buttons and the menu button refused to work. I could go back on my bike and move around, but the moment I dismounted, I was locked. I had to hard-quit the game to be able to move away from my bike.
- Network issues only seem to affect damage to your opponents, not the other way around. I was fighting against a melee attacker, but I couldn't draw my sword. I was 20 feet away from the enemy while he was swinging at air and damaging me.
- I've more than once almost died because I got stuck in a weird crevice that wouldn't allow me to jump away, all while being stun-locked by two melee and one heavy opponent.
- Climbing gets buggy to the point where I found myself dangling from the ceiling of a doorway without any way to jump down.
- The one that finally made me quit the game for good was when I'd been mining for 20 minutes, putting the materials in my buggy, only to check the buggy's inventory and find the iron had vanished. Not in my buggy, not in my backpack, just gone.

There are some personal preference issues I have with the game. I find survival games relaxing and like playing solo, so constantly having to struggle to find real-estate on public servers was frustrating. I don't have time to log in every day, so I was always facing a risk of having my base raided because I can only log on on weekends. Again, these are my personal preferences. If you enjoy survival games as a group, like that tension with other players, and don't mind playing exclusively online, then YMMV.

I enjoyed the world, the building mechanics, the fight for water and survival against raiders, slavers, enemy combatants, and the tension of trying to mine in the sand while constantly watching for worms. So many parts of it made me feel like I was fighting for survival on Arakis. The environments are beautiful, to the point where I felt like I could smell the sand when a storm hit my base. The combat, when it worked and you weren't stun-locked, felt challenging but not impossible. The "war of assassins" faction quests were interesting, if a bit lacking.

I really wanted to like this game. It had such great high points and when it worked I had fun. The bugs just got to the point where I couldn't take it any more.
