This may be an "open world" game, but you have to be prepared for the fact that all enemy/npc levels are static. No scaling. So if you don't want to be walled by OHKO enemies when exploring you have to pay CLOSE attention to the journal so you know which areas to explore.

That said, once you get into the game and learn how to play it properly it may just be the best RPG ever. The character customization is incredibly liberal, the story(ies) are great and combat is just as simple- or complex- as you want it to be. Being able to change the difficulty on a whim and save in the middle of dialogues (or battle) makes it easy to make the game just as challenging as you personally want it to be.
Just make sure to save often, because no matter the difficulty, you will sometimes get insta-killed by deathtraps, make disastrous dialogue choices or auto-engage way too strong enemies with no way to escape. I've had to reload quicksaves far more often here than in any other game I can think of.

Pros:
- Character Customization: any class, any race. You can even choose which class the six story characters should have.
- Equipment & Shopping: I can't say how many hours I've spent figuring out just the right sets of armors for my characters. It's really engaging.
- Story and Quests: most quests feel really unique and the overall quality is great.
- Combat: way too many options for only one playthrough. It's incredible how wide the array of combat options and spells is.
- Graphics: Absolutely gorgeous graphics for a CRPG-style game.

Cons:
- Confusing progression: unless you consult your journal regularly.
- No level scaling or respawning enemies: this one almost forces you to do ALL the quests available to get enough exp, and punishes people who want to explore the map freely by walling them with strong enemies.
- Combat: It is generally great, but the more you play the more you have to abuse knockdown/shock spamming to be able to counter harder hitting enemies. Late game combat essentially boils down to 1: Wittle down physical or magical shield, whichever one is weakest, with your nukes. 2: When shield is gone, chainstun the enemy until it's dead.
- Crafting: runes and alchemy work I guess, but what even is armor/weapon crafting lol. It's a shame that you can't create your own personalized armor/weapon set during the later parts of the game. Having to reload saves to get *just* the right enchantments on the items merchants sell is incredibly frustrating and could have been avoided with a proper crafting/enchanting system.

Verdict: 9/10, must buy for any crpg fan.

The goods:

Extreme open world freedom - you'll rarely be walled by too high leveled enemies, making exploration seamless.

RPG elements - Although heavily stripped down from previous titles, it's still much better than Skyrim and other new RPG's.

Magic system - Probably the best in the series, in my opinion. Spellcrafting ftw.

Factions - Fighters and mages guild aren't too great but the Dark Brotherhood is the best in the series bar none.

DLC - Shivering isles is justly considered to be the best expansion for any video game to date.

Side quests - This game has some of the most memorable side quests of all time.

Features - Some people call them bugs. Not sure what they're on about.



The bads:

Combat - Although the magic system is fine combat in general is pretty shallow and repetitive.

Main story - It's not bad, but it's definitely not great either. The main story isn't why you're playing this game though.

Level system - It's retarded, but you'll get the hang of it after a while.

Difficulty curve - Very unnatural in and of itself and is made worse by the confusing level system.


Verdict:

Despite its many flaws, I still consider it to be one of my favourite games. It truly is a unique experience and a damn fine open world rpg.

Although it suffers both graphics- and gameplay wise as it is a crossplatform game with the mobile market, its still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun game that can keep you going for hours on end.
It may not have a particularly large world compared to today's standards, and does get dull and repetitive after some time, but since it is free and gets regular updates, it is very much a game I recommend keeping in your library so that you can log on and have some fun every now and then.
