You'll love it or hate it just try it out and see for yourself the trial is free.
Just make sure to get the full bundle upfront if you do love it. The most fun parts are at 80 the max level like most MMOs, but it's not like others elsewhere. Instead of vertical progression getting to ridiculous numbers you do a more horizontal progression.

If you do try it out, I'd recommend going thru the settings and fixing them to your liking asap. MightyTeapot has a good video on controls on his YouTube page for all the general stuff and tips for that. KROOF has a good video on action camera, which changes the way the game plays drastically and feels more like an action RPG in combat similar to ESO than a tab target mmo like WoW. You can customize a lot of these settings to flex into whatever parts you like.

Many plugins are not allowed in the game however. Anything that gives you an unfair advantage. Before installing ANY plugin check to make sure Arenanet (the devs) have allowed it so you don't get in trouble. They've been giving away a lot of goodies for new players due to the Steam release so get in there and have fun.

Your character's age (not account age) does contribute to gifts you get over the years so make sure to keep your first character you make even if you don't like it if you really want those gifts quickly (obviously if you quickly delete it and make a different character the same day this doesn't really matter and only over time will this issue hurt you if you care about it enough.)
