I'm having a blast with this one. Cute and funny party game, don't mind the review bombing - people expected offline option (and i get it why) but instead of just getting a refund they leave negatives without commenting on the actual gameplay.

If you don't mind constant internet connection, i guarantee you'll have tons of fun either solo or with friends

EDIT: Still fun to play, don't listen to haters

Great throwback to oldschool
I discovered this game couple days ago when i was going through discounts. Oldschool-ish graphics brought my attention, i was amazed by how this game looked fresh and old in the same time. This will definitely discourage some people because let's be honest - you need to love pixelart to accept this game, if you hate this style, even a masterpiece will throw you off.

I'd say this game starts quite slowly, introducing basic mechanics that everyone should already know but it still a sign of good design. You'll learn how to fight certain types of monsters, how to navigate through map etc. I've never felt overwhelmed by amount of things i can or should do, there's always "just enough" to make me play that one more level. There's always something new, some new possibilities after finished level.

Let's focus on mechanics because they give a great modern twist I really loved. Character progression - during the game you will gain levels, every level gives you one attribute point which you can spend on Strength, Life, Spirit or Capacity (without getting into details). Every 5th level you gain perk point and i'd be honest, it's something that IMO should be redesigned because half of the perks is not that useful and I don't think anyone would need them. Maybe on higher difficulties, who knows...

This is why we love FPS...
But now, the bread and butter of this game - UPGRADES. Oh my god, i cannot express how great this is. During you shootings and exploration you will gain upgrade points which can be spent on weapons or spells (i will not talk about them because i kinda ignored them in my build - but i believe it's possible to use mostly spells instead of weapons). Almost every weapon can be upgraded into one of two possible forms, it's very important decision because once upgraded, you cannot switch or even go back to original state. It took me some time before i finally decided what i want but when i upgraded them, oh boy, it was AWESOME. I kinda miss the ability to refund the upgrade because i wasn't happy with my double smgs but i still used them and didn't complain much.

In terms of weapons, i'll keep it short. We have melee weapons, revolver, shotgun, double-barrel shotgun, smg, minigun, rocket launcher, dynamite even something similar to BFG! You can feel people at Buckshot love classic FPS and wanted to give a little wink to fans, half of the weapons reminded me other games and maybe that nostalgia made it even better for me. Every weapon feels great, sound, visual effect, screaming enemies. Using them brings pure joy

Welcome to Good Design Department
I'm gonna be honest with you - i was worried that i bought another roguelike game, but fear not! Just like good old classics - it has chapter split into stages. Every stage has X amount of levels and every chapter ends with boss fight. Be careful during your exploration, they were very cheeky with their traps and surprises. However, after some time you can smell the trap from a mile, it shows that they weren't so sure about map design but it's still good. I'm surprised that i never felt bored by their level design, good job!

And monsters, once again i cannot express how good they are. Every chapter has its own theme and because of that, monsters change as well. They look great, you can feel the payed a lot of attention to this and tried to make every one of them special. My only concern is that some of them are just reskins and mechanic-wise they work similarly but there's also a good side of this. Because of that with every chapter, instead of teaching us new monsters they can throw us into deep water and surround us with couple dozen of baddies.

Bosses are okay, they didn't really impress me but i cannot say they are bad. They have simple mechanic and the biggest obstacle is just fighting them + never ending waves of their minions, it's a good challenge to see if we are really "worthy" to go to another chapter.

Just go and buy this game, you will not regret it.

Tl;dr
Great game 8/10
If you miss oldschool shooters with modern twist, give it a chance! And finally, NOT A ROGUELIKE, just good old shooter with a lots of cool mechanics!

Grind paradise
First, we need to address the elephant in the room - constant Monster Hunter references. It's obvious that people will compare it to the much bigger franchise due to the similar idea and mechanics but i think it should be taken as a compliment.

The core gameplay is focused on fighting with monsters - they are split into few groups, small, medium and large and the last group is the one you will constantly hunt for. Every monster has its weakness which you can exploit - cutting off arms, legs, wings and other body parts weakens them and brings you precious crafting resources.

In terms of gameplay, the most interesting part is fighting. Amount of tweaks and changes you can do: equipment, skills, mitamas (souls of ancestors that give you buffs) and teammates. That's one of the helpful and useless (depends on the situation) thing - you are able to assemble a team of bots (based on the story characters) that will aid you in your fights. Sometimes you will find yourself much more weaker than they are at the start of the game but in the late game they start to be less and less relevant and you start caring about them only as a meat shield.

Crafting is quite straight forward - gather X amount of Y resources and you can transform it into Z. The problem starts when you wish to craft specific type of weapons - you'll know the weapon recipe only when you gather every material needed for it. It makes crafting specific items a little bit trickier but you can always help yourself with some googling.

Visually the game already looks a bit old but it still holds its atmosphere. Peaceful forests and grasslands transform into wild arenas where you fight with terrifying monsters (i still cannot forget how one of them started creepily crawling to me after i cut off its legs). They all look great, some of them are less scary but still everything looks terrific. In terms of level design it's nothing special - arenas with corridors but i didn't expect anything more.

The game offers main story, hunt missions (used to farm specific monster ingredients), ruins (some sort of endurance challenge) and multiplayer. The last one is not so crowded but there's still some people on discord who look for playing buddies.

Overall i'd say this game is worth it for someone who likes:
  • Asian-themed games
  • Grind
  • Hundreds of possible builds
  • Sometimes a little bit weeb-ish atmosphere

I enjoyed playing this game but i don't think i'll ever come back to it. It's a good one-time adventure.

I'll try to keep my review short because I don't wanna waste anyone's time...
Think twice before buying!
For the first 10 or so hours it was pretty fun - i came up with the same idea as everyone else. I thought it will be Stardew Valley with dark twist and for sure you can see it was their intention at first. Unfortunately they didn't know how to keep us busy.

Everything is a chore - farming, graveyard, automating processes(creating zombies), selling. Whatever you do, you do it because there is no other way of progression, you are stuck to one path - upgrade ur tools, upgrade graveyard+church, spend some time farming, wait for specific day to move the story further. Repeat whole cycle.
It seems like someone really wanted to cash out on Stardew Valley hype but didn't know how to bring life in this game. Most of the stuff you will craft cannot be sold to ANYONE - the issue is so big that there's a list on wiki which trader buys what. In a game where you spend most time crafting. Terrible design choice.

Most of the stuff i crafted during the gameplay was stuff i needed to progress the story, there was exactly ZERO times when i thought that i will craft something for fun.

And the most important problem - GRIND, terrible grind. You discover new tech by spending red, green and blue points, which you get by crafting. Every item brings only specific type and amount of points, and usually you will get laughable amount of blue points. I ended up spending about 1h just crafting gravestones so i'll have blue points to acces new technology - because at that moment i didn't have money to buy books from archaeologist.

Thank god for the zombies, gathering materials and crafting is designed to annoy you as possible. Example:
NPC X wants you to make Y for him.
1. Go back to your house
2. Figure out you are missing materials
3. You craft them but it takes some time
4. You craft thing that NPC asked you for
5. Whoops, too late, NPC will be back in next week, go do something else, have fun!

That's only one of the examples of how tedious this game is. UI, movement and even upgrades are bugged - nothing is thoroughly tested and i didn't even tried to break something. And they have balls to call it full version and RELEASE A DLC. Pathetic.

To sum things up. It reminds me scenarios from Pen&Paper RPGs where Game Master prepares some ridiculous puzzles that are barely solvable but from his/her point of view it's pretty obvious what to do next. Even Minecraft in Alpha days was much more predictable than this game. I'd like to get my 60h back but it's impossible so perhaps this review will save someone else's time...
