Good game, but overhyped and over priced.

My opinion is torn on this game. On the one hand it had a botched PC launch with way too many bugs, broken promises, and an shallow learning curve. On the other hand it is a fun exploration/survival game with solid mechanics.

I may have lucked out in my home world. Abundant resources, low sentinel mostly passive creatures, and a friendly race of robot people who are all too willing to sell me items. Abundant gold mountains have fueled my hunt to finally purchase a lvl 24 ship. So far I have had no need to leave. Every time I think I may I find a new area, or some underground cave that begs me to search on. Thankfully abundant Plutonium allows me the luxury of taking my ship with me often.

That is not to say the game is without flaws. Walking feels slow and flying feels worse on Keyboard/Mouse. The controls are still messing with my mind, causing me to lean when I want to turn. Minimum flying height and some lag on drawing has caused me to waste a landing more than once on what I thought was a mountain of Gold, only to be an area I visited already. I also find myself wishing for a map of the area so i can easily tell if I visited a place or not.

Being procedurally done this also creates broken areas. I had a settlement on a hill where my save point was partly floating in air. Some of the creatures on my planet look horrific as well due to the nature of their design.

All this leads me to my two big negatives. The hype was too big for this game. If this had been done as we see so many other indie titles done, slow release to dedicated fans, it would have been a huge hit.

Second is the price. The game gives you a lot, but not the polish you expect from a title at that price. To me this feels like a $35 game with huge potential rather than a $60 game with missed polish

To the big question, would I recommend this game? In the end, yes. I would recommend it to those who enjoy survival games where resource management are key. Games with a similar vibe to Minecraft or Starbound where the grind is not necessarily polished over. People who enjoy setting their own objectives and find joy in discovery more than accomplishments.

I could go on and on about the hyper-realistic, partial based goat simulating physics. I could speak endlessly on the 1 to 1, next-gen of next-gen design. Goat simulations so realistic you will feel compelled to eat every other goat simulator you own, and then post the resulting fecal deposits on Facebook.
But no….what I want to touch on is the expert story.
A touching plot that starts simple, as most do, but ends in such a tear jerking plot twist that you will go watch Lassie to calm down. A tale so well woven than I actually forgot I was not a goat. Sure my wife left me and all my furniture has bite marks in it, but that is the price.
Without giving too much away it is the story of a goat in a small town. Yes, it starts with the same story you have seen hundreds of times before in every pathetic goat game of the past. Soon though you are thrust into a “Game of Thrones” like struggle for the crown and the undying acceptance from your peers. Life and Death seem to swirl around the goat until he meet the love of his life only to find our SHE IS A RO….

I am sorry…the tears……I can no longer see what I am typing. Just play the game…it will change your life.
