Stellar.

Although the replay value is somewhat limited by the fact that I'd have to disappoint my boy Kim to truly see the rest of the game.

Improves and expands on R1 in many ways. It's still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in terms of difficulty, but great fun! There's much more story now, but that's a side dish to the core, meditative gameplay loop. (I haven't progressed past Rank 3 at the time of writing). An absolute must for fans of original Receiver, but it could prove tough to newcomers.

+ A smoother difficulty progression done by "Ranks". Deranking may feel harsh, but you keep the guns you unlocked in the spawn pool, so it's only an issue if you're trying to "beat" the game or unlock more guns (if you REALLY wish to just see what's at the end, I hear old cheatcodes still work)
+ More guns with more quirks (malfunctions, hell yeah)
+ New (situational) hacking mechanic to conserve ammo and give you a fighting chance if you run out
+ No more 7-day-game visuals, levels look great
+ Ballistics and crazy penetration - might not be particularly useful, but it's cool seeing the marks from the shooting through four walls; or the the occasional ricochets

+/- "Threat echo" adds a neat minigame of unloading your gun, but the tapes make it much too obvious when it's gonna happen, so you have ample time to do it three times over. I would make it happen sooner into the tape (or perhaps even make it a random chance?)
+/- The slow draw/holster is a fine deterrent from rushing as you would upon memorizing everything in R1
+/- Drones (may those things burn in robot hell) now have the decency to break after just 1 or 2 shots, but also have more persistent AI
+/- Tapes don't glow but are easier to locate via audio. Now there's more of them to collect on each rank (and just 5 per level)!
+/- The themes could feel overbearing to some
+/- The flashlight gets a lot more play now, but I'm not sure how I feel about it making enemies spot you a mile away
+/- New enemy types are fine, but nothing too crazy (at least so far)

- Some tiles, particularly ones with a lot of verticality and guardrails/catwalks can have too much going on at once to clear safely
- Some drone spawns can feel unfair, particularly ones behind glass and in tight spaces next to turrets
- Furthermore, drones still exist (a plague upon their robotic family)
- Your character still can't drop even 50cm without snapping their legs

Hello, yes?
Call the surgeons and tell them they can have the day off;
Cause I'll be doing all the operating from now on.
