Early Access Review
TLDR: Very unique game and a lot of fun with incredible atmosphere and sound design. Performace needs some improvements though. Reviewers talking about microtransactions being needed to unlock items or provide an advantage, are wrong. Overall, recommend this to anyone that's thinking about trying it. Otherwise it won't harm to wait for a few more patches.

After seeing gameplay for the first time I thought this absolutely wasn't my type of game (looked too much like yet another BR for me).
I decided to give it a try during a free weekend and immediately got hooked.

It is a very unique experience and game.
If you have a buddy (or two at this point) and you're not sure whether to give this game a try or not, I'd definitely say "Do it!".

Atmosphere is really good, sound design is one of the best you'll find in any game. Sound is a very important aspect of this game. Everything makes a sound (there are some new traits which mitigate some of these though), be it crouchwalking, switching weapons, climbing ladders etc. There are also various audio traps in the game. Ranging from clinging metal hanging on ropes, glass shards on the floor, Crows, Ducks and more.

Some other reviewers talk about microtransactions.
Saying things like:

- "Real money is needed to unlock stuff" : this is not the case. You unlock every single item by leveling up your account and simply by playing the game.

For example (don't know the exact numbers): In the newest version (1.0) you unlock the base version of a Pistol at rank 10. You can then purchase this Pistol for your Hunter with in-game currency. Then there are a few variations of this weapon. The next one requires you to gain 1000XP with that base version of the pistol. Now you've unlocked variation 2. For the third, gain 2000XP with variation 2 or do XY´with it equipped, for example.

You can spend real money on "Blood Bonds". Those can be used to buy Legendary Skins, which you can also get by simply playing the game.

Legendary Hunters have a unique look and some of them might camouflage a little bit better under specific conditions, but they come without any traits. After progressing your level far enough, you'll be able to buy Tier 3 Hunters, which also camouflage pretty well, but come with certain traits, weapons, etc. already.

Same goes with Legendary Weapon skins. You use Blood Bonds to unlock legendary weapon skins or you prestige (at account level 100) and from Prestige 1-10 (Prestige 5 & 10 are a fixed reward afaik) you'll get a random Legendary Skin (Weapon or Hunter) anyway. Legendary Weapons don't have any advantage. They just look unique. Stats are all the same.

You're definitely perfectly fine without spending any money on those microtransactions.

My biggest issue currently with the game is the performance though. Which will be a bit of a bummer to a lot of people, I know.

I'm currently using a 7700K @ 5GHz, 1070 OC'd and RAM is 3866MHz (Timings 1-17-17-17-36).
I'm mostly fine with the performance, however there are framedrops every now and then. I'm usually around 130-120FPS, but sometimes it dips down to ~70.

Hopefully those will be tackled in the future too.

Overall, I'd still recommend it!
