Dead Age is an enjoyable yet grindy resource management turn-based combat zombie apocaplypse game. The resource management isn't flawless or extremely detailed, but simple to allow you to appreciate and get lost in the story and surroundings whilst being important enough that if you make a mistake one night, its game over.

The combat is easy to get used to, scaling at an appropriate speed so as to make it difficult in the later stages of the game. Any non-advocate for turn-based combat should probably avoid this game at all costs. Unlocking new skills prolongs the novelty of the combat somewhat, but ultimately after 5 or 6 hours the combat does get a bit stale, and I found myself seeing it as a necessity to progress rather than one of the reasons I keep coming back to play.

The soundtrack is phenomenal. The choice to make the soundtrack ambient sounds and not music was a brave one that ultimately paid off. i find that i get bored after an hour or two of a background track, but the background noises of this game just add to the atmosphere without becoming intrusive.

The skill system is quite marmite. it takes a long time to level up the characters after level 8ish, so it's basically impossible to diversify anyone, even if you use yourself constantly. However, by picking different trees and specialising each survivor, you can create a customised group of people you can easily interchange dependent on the situation at hand.

The resources - whilst lacking somewhat in numbers - are all purposeful. There are important decisions to be made each day in order to feed everyone, go out and explore/complete missions, whilst trying to leave enough guards to not be overwhelmed if any raiders or zombies crash the party. Altogether this aspect of the game is quite fun and very challenging if you get yourself in a pickle early on.

The game has a definite comicbook artstyle. Whilst the graphics are okay at best, the art is done well enough to not let this be a negative aspect of the game. The only downside of the look of Dead Age is that the background scenery can get repetitive, and there is a distinct lack of enemy models.

In conclusion, if youre a fan of turn-based combat and zombies, this game will probably give you 5-10 hours of enjoyment. Especially in a sale og 60%+, unless you actively dislike the core aspects of games like this, it is definitely worth picking up.
