Let's start with the good:

-great scenery, even on the "dead" planets (caveat: need a mod to remove the grey filter... what were they thinking with that). i am constantly using photo mode. also i use some mods to randomize the size of vegetation and other environmental features.

-combat is repetitive, but fun. I wouldn't mind some gore (blood and severed limbs flying around in zero-G would be AMAZING) but it doesn't have to be fallout 4 levels. also, im using a 5x enemies mod and an improved enemy AI mod to get my adrenaline fix. also, the weapons and weapon upgrades aren't terrible.

-as a former lego spaceship kid, I love designing my own spaceships, even though the builder can be finicky.

-some interesting side quests. random distress call turning into a pretty comprehensive and fun questline.

The bad:

-the main quest. the entire plot is a giant hole. i can't wait for a "Remove Main Quest" mod.

-the faction quests. EXTREMELY weak and lazy writing. predictable twists, absurdly convenient plot armor, boring cliche characters.

-planet surfaces and POI system. let say you decided to land on the same "inhabited" planet 1000 times. within your 1000 little "cages" of explorable terrain, you will find:
3000 "Abandoned Mines" each populated with 1 of 4 varieties of human enemies. 3x3000 of the same miners murdered in the same hole in the same spot in every abandoned mine.
2500 "Abandoned Cryo Lab" each populated with 1 of 4 varieties of human enemies. 1x2500 of the same dead frozen scientist with 1x2500 of the same slate with the same text on it in the exact same spot.
2000 "Abandoned Research Tower" each populated with the same amount of Ecliptic troops in the same spots
I can keep going but you get the idea. And multiply that by all of the similarly inhabited planets/moons, and you have MILLIONS of the same POIs inhabited by BILLIONS of spacers, pirates, zealots and mercs.
they could've made the repetitive locations lore friendly by saying, idk, drones/AI built them before the arrival of the people who would be using those locations. they could even make the POI famous and have NPC dialogue about them or something. but no, just another loose end ruining immersion in the world.

-towns and settlements. okay, we have established that there are A LOT of hostile kill-on-sight folks out there, so surely the existence of peaceful settlements, peaceful factions, and even the name "the settled systems" indicates a massive population of civilians and powerful governments, right? they would easily be overrun if they didn't, right? nope. the "cities" (all three of them) are home to MAYBE one thousand NPCs, and only a couple dozen of them named. they don't eat, they don't sleep, they don't shop. they just shuffle around or stand in place and stare at you if you come anywhere close to them. strongest NPC energy ever measured in a game.

-outpost building. spend hours finding the perfect spot between two biomes with 5 or more elements to extract in the same outpost. repeat it about 10 times on 10 different planets.build greenhouses for adhesives and sealants. build cargo links between your outposts. build fabricators and manufacture higher and higher-end components. maybe even build a couple luxurious habs in your more scenic outposts. slowly realize that after you are done researching all of the tech trees and modding all of your gear, there is NOTHING to do with all of your components and resources, which you could've just bought from traders for the price of a few advanced weapons. cry yourself to sleep when you realize outposts are absolutely useless and a waste of time with the exception of the shipbuilder landing pad and bounty clearing kiosk.

-ships landing on planets. let's ignore that NMS could seamlessly do it even on its god-awful release EIGHT YEARS AGO and say it's technically impossible. why does the ship have to land every single time? why cant you drop out of the ship's bay from a few hundred feet up and use your jet pack to land? why can't enemies do that when they send reinforcements? why aren't enemies curious when your Freestar Eagle lands on THEIR landing pad and not form some kind of welcome party to check it out? why do people let me steal their ships from planet surfaces but my ship never gets stolen? is there some kind of lore reason that ships can't attack the ground from the air or from orbit? loose ends. ruined immersion.

-you can skip almost ALL space encounters and ship combat with fast travel besides the quest-essential ship combat

-there is plenty of other stuff, but I'm tired of writing this review. hit me up BGS if you want some more reality checks or want me to elaborate further on any of my points.

Spent 300 hours in and around Night City. I would say I got my money's worth. I will replay it again, so that will be 450 hours.

TL;DR: 2077 doesn't have the replayability or mod support of a Bethesda game, and is not as fun of an open world and lacks multiplayer compared to a Rockstar game.

The game ends and there is no end game. There is no reason to jump back into Night City after you clear the map and complete the main story line unless you are starting over, which will probably be old after my third playthrough.

With FO4 and Skyrim, there is an endless stream of new content and gameplay changes thanks to good mod support. I've never actually hit every point of interest in any one of my playthroughs of these games. Cells respawn, and there are the maligned Radiant quests (but hey, at least there is something).

With GTA V and RDR2, the open world can still be fun after you beat the main story. Plenty of good times to be had just blowing stuff up and killing cops. Unlike 2077, it's a lot more challenging to 100% the map or get gold on all of the missions. Not to mention the beast which is GTA V online.

Anyways... I hope the modding scene for this game blows up, and I hope CDPR adds multiplayer or some kind of challenging end-game component because the action is actually fun and the game looks great. It has potential.

Threw a javelin into some peasants' faces. Won a few tournaments. Upgraded some troops with the high-tier butter. Very satisfying.

Doesn't work for most games. The interaction with big picture mode is annoying. The quality of the control surfaces is lackluster. Only game I use it for is Civ 6, but I needed to buy an Xbone controller with wireless adapter for all of the other games, which include but are not limited to: Skyrim, Fallout 4, GTA V/online, Subnautica, and Forza Horizon 4.

If you only play Civ 6 from your couch, this may be the controller for you. If you need a controller for ANY OTHER GAME, you probably want to go with something else.
