Haha yeah, a pessimist would almost say that was intentional... I've grabbed the lot - never actually played Syndicate Wars so good excuse to give it a go

I see gog.com are giving away Ultima Underworld 1 & 2, Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars until 3rd Sept. After everyone bought them thinking that they were about to disappear off the platform...

Yeah, it's somewhat Quake-y (especially the jump and voice sound effects), but it takes it to the next level. The difficulty curve is spot on - as are the controls. I believe the same developers also made Amid Evil. Am just prepping some screenshots for the blog, which I've just started updating again. Deffo worth a play.

I haven't! That's the one that's sort of Quake/Heretic? It's been on my wish list for a good while, should've checked in the last sale but completely forgot about it. I really like some of the Unity FPS systems, some very snappy and old school control schemes rather than the modern floaty stuff

You played Dusk yet Bish? It's lotsa fun. It's a made-in-Unity FPS that is fast and fluid and is a 'tribute' to the classic shooters of the early 90s. I just finished my first playthrough today and have just started my second. Don't make the same mistake as I did though, and make sure you pick up the soap in every level... In fact: look at the achievements before you start playing. There are a couple that are worth getting on the first playthrough. Like the soap achievement, and 'Completionist'. I thought I had them, but I was wrong. Great weapons; weird enemies; superb level design. It's a must play. Leapt out of my chair on a couple of occasions too. It's that kind of game. :)

I don't do it now I'm afraid, but a while ago I was pretty active with AoW\AoW:SM play by email! The best way to do it is to use a piece of software called the Age of Wonders Email Wrapper. Once you've set it up it automatically sends\receives your turns, so you don't have to deal with attaching them to emails and sending them out manually. If you're struggling to find people to play with, I suggest checking the AoW discussions board on Steam, the Age of Wonders Heaven website, and I think there's still some PBEM specific groups here on Steam that might be still active!
