I have no clue what the devs are on, genuinely the 1.0 launch was a bait and switch. Gatcha mechanics galore, mechanics such as having a third/fourth consumable slot, and being able to actually fully level your abilities in game, are now locked behind leveling. In this PvP game. On top of this you now gain items and upgrades for the items for the entire "season" (whatever that means? its now a wiping seasonal game?) through gatcha lootbox mechanics. These items are objectively better than base and lower tier items, and can only be gotten through grinding and luck rolling lootboxes.

edit: In fact, upon playing further, getting these items from lootboxes is the only way to directly buy them from shops in match. Imagine playing League of Legends, or DOTA2, and because your account level is not high enough, you haven't played enough games, or you haven't gotten lucky enough from lootboxes, you weren't allowed to buy items in the match. You cannot even buy boot upgrades until you get lucky with lootboxes. The only way to get more of the currency for rolling these boxes is killing things in match, mainly players, and the amount you keep is reduced if you do not win the battle royale.

"League of Legends battle royale" has rapidly been moved away from in favor of awful gatcha mechanics confusing returning players and alienating anyone who joins late. I can't imagine what this game would be like for anyone who wants to try it at any time but RIGHT when one of these "seasons" start. (Again, a near unexplained inventory wiping mechanic ala an Escape from Tarkov/extract shooter wipe, which did not exist for the entirety of testing.)

Not to mention, awfully scummy business practices, exploiting fomo with the promise of exclusive skins only to sell them in shop later. Reducing prices on things with no compensation for players who now overpaid. Full reworks of systems with no warning right before the "1.0" launch. Constantly deleting loved systems with no real way to give feedback, and no real reasoning other than they have no clue what they want out of this game.

edit2: I'd like to add, I've been playing this game since its earliest closed alphas. I played back when it was only on the Theorycraft launcher. I have the rewards to show it because I played substantial amounts during every early stage. It absolutely sucks to be not recommending this game, as it is undeniably amazing at its base. I've been buying things and giving feedback to this game for ages now, and absolutely don't want to see it fail - but to say I'd recommend anyone start playing until these things are addressed and some courses are reversed/changed is just lying.

Early Access Review
Continuous removal of content and playstyles since purchase, the product is nowhere near what it was when I paid for it - far past balancing or what would be expected of early access. To name a few lacking or removed things just since I started playing:

  1. Removal of Solo and Duo modes entirely
  2. No custom mode
  3. No training mode
  4. No "firing range" of any sorts
  5. Player Market lacks most QoL, no favourites, no searching based on the item in your inventory like Escape From Tarkov
  6. Removal of PvE only mode
  7. Near complete lack of new player onboarding - see #6 above - a link to a Discord server on the main menu is all it consists of

The devs also frequently go back on promises and philosophies far past what would be expected of a growing early access game, in my opinion entering the area of sometimes scummy practices. They tout moving away from the predatory nature of the game industry, Anti-P2W practices, and "putting players first", yet paid access to the game, combined with paid cosmetics, is not enough. To name a few:

  • A seasonal real money subscription, granting usable in game items, such as lockpicks and greatly upgraded gold coin bags.
  • "Exclusive" Twitch drop skins immediately being gone back on, now being sold for real money in the shop.
  • The removal of PvE mode, they still advertise Adventure Mode and have nothing to say about the massive influx of players who joined PURELY due to its addition, now alienated.

On top of everything, the game falls into the pit of nerfing the things around something possibly overpowered, not actually changing the meta, and then completely forgetting to restore or counteract any of the small changes when they finally find the mark - and they always seem to find it wrong.
e.g.: Warlock ages ago gained the ability to use weapons during Demon Form, rather than only the unique attacks. This became very powerful later as balance shifted. Warlock built many things allowing them to stack many bonus damages on swing, combined with Demon Form it was too strong. Do you think they maybe walked back the Demon Form changes? No, they repeatedly nerfed Warlock's other curses, perks, and spells, some unrelated to said Demon Form build, Demon Form itself was nerfed in ineffective ways. Finally they hit the mark by... Removing Warlock's dagger from them. Demon Form now stands as an alright way to frontline, if your entire team wants to buff you, and holds no other purpose. Warlock now has a perk adding 2 Damage per swing, access to a secondary casting implement meant to increase weapon damage by single digits, and completely lacks an actually fast swinging weapon. Never once did they seem to consider simply returning to weaponless Demon Form.

It's an amazing concept and feels so good - there's truly literally nothing like it. Hell, I still want to play it and do on occasion in the hopes it will get/be better. The list I could go down of amazing ideas and execution they have is pretty large, but the list of bad is so exponentially larger, and it's immediately apparent; by no means is it something only visible after hundreds or thousands of hours. I just absolutely can NOT recommend this game in its current state and direction.

If you liked the first one you'll love this one. Very good, only real problem is performance, minor dips and a lower than I'd like average framerate but not in the way really at all.

8.9/10 so far

An amazing sandbox game with years of support and polish. Great bosses, combat, and avenues for endless creativity.

I've been playing Payday 2 for quite a while now, and actually only bothered buying it due to nostagic memories of playing PD:TH on my brother's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ old laptop when I was younger. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good game, has it's up sides and down, and I certainly have my complaints, though we'll get to that.

Pros

  • This game, has a phenominal soundrack composed by Simon Viklund. It fits the theme of the game perfectly and really gives you the motivation to give it your all.
  • The devs really care about the community, they listen the player's cheers and jeers, and really just keep trying to keep everyone happy and better the game.
  • The game controls well, everything is tight and responsive, and just does what you want it to do
  • There are many many options for how you play. Tons of skills, perks, and weapons to choose from.
  • This game has alot of heists, or the missions you do, and there's something for everyone here.

Cons

  • Desync. This game has a big problem with multiplayer games desyncing, though OVK says a fix is coming very soon.
  • The meta is strong with this one. This game has a very small and clear set of 'meta' weapons and skills and perks. Though this really only affects the One Down difficulty (The highest difficulty).
  • The bots don't really... Work right. They drop the bags you give them to carry to do anything, and sometimes just don't listen right.

Overall, a pretty solid game, I of course clearly did not cover every good and bad bit though I think I got my point across.
This game is certainly not the best, though it's a very solid game I thoughouly enjoy.

7/10

Amazing platform fighter, Devs really care about the game and update fequently.

Bugs are near nonexitstent, only bugs I find are on test features honestly.

Everything game changing (such as the champions themselves) can be bought with in-game currency, character cholor schemes are all given to you by leveling the champ that's getting them, with the exception of two (white and black) that can be bought with in-game currency. Everything that is real-world money exclusive is just things like skins and player icons.

Overall near no gripes.

Ran around as a fox in a pimp hat and a pink tutu, alt tabbed and it broke my game. I had to go and end it's processes manually. This game showed me that running from your problems fixes nothing, you have to destroy them at the roots manually to be sucessful.

5/7 would fox again
