wilmot works it out is not an autobiographical narrative adventure by gary wilmot, mbe. it is a game where you must assemble a series of jigsaws by pushing blocks around. the vibe is relaxed and cozy, except when the postlady knocks on your door incessantly and tells you about things you're not interested in.

immense cheese plate of gameplay. i'm not sure i've got the patience to finish every one but there's no denying the quality of design on show here. i hesitate to say there's something for everyone but if you have any fondness for 8-bit/arcade-style short form games you won't be disappointed

somehow this takes the basic idea of road rash and takes it into the 21st century but removes almost all of the charm.

very good puzzle game, but i'm too thick for the later levels. the artstyle is very ugly but perfectly suited to the ugly deeds contained within! also it reminds me of GEMpaint or something so very good! i recommend if you are a poirot or jim crime solver on youtube

disassembling and assembling objects is fun, but the game loses some of the tactile nature by using a mosue.

the story is not good. i turned off the voiceover immediately. its just okay in the end.

its not a real sequel to quake, but its a very competent shooter. the remake is flawless.

if you ever played a yakuza game and thought "what i really want are MORE RANDOM ENCOUNTERS but turn based" then look no further.

i joke, of course. yakuza : like a dragon is the logical prequel (?!) to yakuza 0, a game which refined every aspect of the yakuza series so well you're not missing anything by playing it again and watching the story of the entire yakuza series on youtube.

the weird thing in like a dragon compared to zero is there's a half-tactical half brawler turn based combat mode instead of the usual mash x and y until the boss turns invincible then use heat mode realtime brawl mode. this works fine, albeit its slower to run through trash mobs.

the map is zoned like an mmo, so you naturally hang out in areas with low threat until you can handle the random mobs. this works well, though there are various points where ichiban decides "i won't go here yet". eventually the game guides you there, but this is definitely a game where the journey is more important than the destination.

of course, its also a yakuza game, so you can definitely explore the heck out of a couple of square miles and meet goofy people. the devs clearly made a beautiful tribute to dragon quest, but added their own bizarre charm and overwrought gameplay systems for literally everything.

i rate it 9 of 10 dragons - if you liked yakuza 0 this game absolutely carries the same torch of quality. if you didn't play yakuza 0 yet, do that first, then get this game.

ps there really are a lot of random battles
