The economy is being ruined by inflation right now through alt account money funneling. By paying for the premium-only player shop seller access on a main account, a player can make unlimited alt accounts and farm specific "red boxes" within 30 minutes for about 400k meseta, they will then purchase a dummy item that the main account has put up for said amount of meseta. This is a very substantial amount of in-game money considering the normal methods of earning them.

Sega's TOS states the use of multiple accounts can lead to a ban but they currently have zero plans to deal with this issue. Since only people with premium can sell items on the shop, that means any Free-to-Play is essentially screwed and will never be able to keep up, even players that spend money but only use one account are at a massive disadvantage. You will either forever be at a disadvantage or be compelled into using multiple+ alt accounts with uncertain risk to your account.

There are already players with over 300 alt accounts, and I'm sure there will be botters using this method.

This issue is similar to why Maplestory 2 died and New Genesis looks to be speedrunning itself to death. While it likely won't truly die due to a cult of whales that are very invested into the game, the population will probably sink as low as global PSO2's population numbers after its failed launch, maybe even lower as there are less computers capable of running NGS. Absolute shame because the game does have potential, but with a ruined economy the game will just bleed players and many have already quit. Great job Sega!

09-29-21 Edit

Red boxing has been mostly dealt with, they implemented limitations to personal shop usage so its not worth someone's time to commit to red boxing anymore as well as banned some number of the exploiters; that said, the abused method's meseta has been in circulation and the economy will feel effects from the inflation for a long time. A lot of F2P have quit unfortunately (for multiple reasons).

As a whale (lol) and someone who has put in quite a lot of time in both Classic and NGS and still has fun with the game via Endless/HTPD/Gigantix farming, it's hard for me to recommend the game to new players with a straight face.

Absolutely disappointing game.

The art and animation teams are definitely to be commended, they did a fantastic job. Unfortunately everything else is just totally bland. The game is filled with so many different systems but they are all very basic and it makes me believe and hope Ni No Kuni 2 is a tech demo for something greater.

The combat starts off fun and you are fooled into believing it'll only get better as you advance through the game. However your first combat experience is not going to be any different from endgame combat. NNK2's combat seems influenced by games of the Tales series where you are able to engage in rapid combos of many variations, but in NNK2 there are no special combos and you will spend most of your time just smashing the basic attack button with the occasional resource spender.

A very questionable design choice regarding combat is how mob packs do not yield much exp at all but the mob levels from zone to zone rise highly. The combat remains simple and easy and you will be blowing through the zones and if you do not go out of your way to grind you might find yourself seemingly underleveled for the next zone. That said, because of how easy the combat is, it doesn't matter much at all, while mob health certainly increases and there will be a handful of damage sponges, you can blow through fights 20-30 levels lower than the mobs you encounter.

You will also run into quite literally the same monster models in every zone and I wish I was joking, quite a waste of talent from the graphics team.

The Kingdom building system is also largely useless, you have one resource to progress/expand your kingdom and that is TIME. It takes time to generate "Kingsguilders," the currency used to upgrade buildings and then it takes time for your newly created buildings to do their research function which is basically adding neat passive quality of life effects. It wouldn't be so bad if Kingsguilders and Research could generate/complete while the game is not running, but they only function while the game is playing, and you can blow through the game's short forgettable story before there is enough time to upgrade your kingdom into being anything useful.

Unfortunately in order to progress through the story you do have to at some point upgrade your kingdom, and in order to do so you need to find followers for your kingdom and that can only be done so by doing bland MMORPG-style side quests. The kingdom is largely useless other than being forced to upgrade it to continue with the story.

The game may hold some charm for new gamers or children, but any experienced gamer will likely find the game's systems and story to be confusingly dull after the first 5 hours.
