opinion: humanism is the only way forward. imo there has never lived a person with a better attitude about humanity than Alfred Adler.. the humanistic values which his counseling method admonished set forth in psychiatry an enduring paradigm of equality, which sought to treat all people as individuals and understand reason through their conscious perspective. this person-centered theology, with its notions of equality, survived nazi-germany's oppression and would later assist in dismantling segregation by inspiring Kenneth B. Clark's argument in Plessy V. Ferguson and Rev.Dr.King's notion of the "drum major instinct".. his unitary theory of mental illness progressed contrarily to the freudian explanations in that it rightly understood mental distress and social in-congruence as arising through erroneous evaluations and guiding fictions which become accentuated by the teleological striving from feelings of inferiority, and sought after without regard for cooperation or social interest.. such a view stole the power away from the biological engine behind the freudian libido and attributed it instead to the individual's attitude towards approaching the tasks of social living. thats at least my take on it, for now.. his work inspired Ichiro Kisimi and Fumitake Koga to write "The courage to be disliked" which, for the first time, awakened me to my potential to not only love and accept others but also myself.
