Excellent little puzzle game. If you're looking to scratch a Factorio-esque itch but you don't want to fire up a new world that you know is going to consume your life for the next 3 weeks... sorry what was I saying?

Oh yeah, Block Shop scratches that itch. It goes from easy to hard a little fast, but it has a nice hints system to help numpties like me when we get stuck (which happened on 2:9 like it seems to have done for a few people lol).

Beyond the gameplay, it's very nicely put together. Nice pixel art, lots of juice, pretty music. Definite recommend.

Great little game if you're looking for something to scratch that "make number go up" itch but you want to do more than idle clicking to earn it. Lots of customisation and funny dialogue, great pixel art, smooth, satisfying mechanics. It's obvious the devs cared about the game.

The games plays a little like a reverse Space Invaders, where you have to *catch* the bullets instead of avoiding them (the bullets are sandwich ingredients) and build up a nice tasty sandwich for the current customer before they run out of patience. It's nice because you can play the game super casual and progress slowly without really challenging yourself, or you can go for ridiculously complicated sandwich stacks and get paid an absolute fortune for your sandwich.

Obviously you'll need to take the game for what is; a fun little arcade style game that rewards you with cats and hats and decor for making number go up. But if that's what the kind of thing you're looking for, I can't recommend this game enough.

Started playing, missed work, an anniversary, my kid's teenage years, and several global crisis'. 1/10 don't buy if you have to do other things.

Weirdly addictive little game. If you like Minecraft (or, more specifically, Terraria), you'll probably like this. It's kind of what No Man's Sky promised to be. But in 2D.

Early Access Review
You can really tell the devs have put a lot of effort into the game world. I know from watching the dev's stream that there are a ridiculous number of branching decisions and paths you can take, though I'm only on my first play through. The art style is deliciously retro, the writing equal parts witty and equal parts intentionally groan-inducing, and the game play is simple enough for anyone to pick up, but challenging enough for more skilful players to not get bored. It depends what paths you take :D

So, the all-important question, should you get it? Well, first off, there's a demo you can try, and the dev recommends you try that. Big brain time, but if you pay for this game and don't like it, that's on you. Play the free sample! But if you like RPGs with a solid narrative, you like to make decisions in-game that actually impact the story, or you just want to play through a weird and interesting world, this game is worth a punt.

But like I said, try the demo first.

So, at the time of writing this review I have about 7 hours in the game, but I also have maybe 10 hours of having streamers on while I work, so I've seen plenty of the game. It's a thorough recommend from me, but I'll get my one major gripe out of the way;

Dialogue. I think the writers have too little faith in their player's ability to understand things. Characters will say the same thing three different ways in the same dialogue block. It's irritating as all hell and it makes you want to skip through, which is a shame because the dialogue is generally well-written and interesting.

The good stuff; the world is massive and super detailed. It feels alive, and it feels like there's something to do or experience everywhere you go. The controls are fine, there's nothing revolutionary but they do the job. If I've had the game for about 48 hours, if I didn't have to do things like work and eat, I'd probably have 30-40 hours in the game already.

If you're a Harry Potter fan, this game is must, but even if you're not, this is an excellent open world fantasy game that stands on its own. You don't need to be familiar with the books or movies to enjoy it.

EDIT: Having attempted to find a fix again, and attempted to play the game again, I've decided to change my recommendation. I can only go on my experience and, in my experience, the game is broken. Unplayable. Shame.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Recommend with a HEAVY caveat. There's a bug that some people experience (it's out there on Google) that's been around for well over a year and doesn't seem to be getting fixed. It causes the game to act severely laggy no matter how good your connection is. When I say "literally unplayable", I'm not mis-using the word "literally".

The game is super fun. I got a couple weeks play out of it before it started acting up in the aforementioned way, teleporting and rubberbanding to the point where the game is worthless. I have no connection issues, packet loss, and the game registers a decent ping. None of the fixes Google has turned up have sorted this issue.

The game is definitely worth the price *IF* it works for you. If you get this bug, however, you may as well throw your money out of a window.
