"I fear I have sadly misjudged you." Mark Twain, Star Trek The Next Generation. FF13 is a beautiful and unique JRPG with deeply confusing lore and a story that mostly happens in the codex. BUT if you like the battle system, the aesthetics and music are enough to carry everything else. It's a game you want to keep looking at, even if you're not quite sure what it's trying to tell you in the end. Simple mods make the graphics even sharper.

After years of hype and expectation, it couldn't possibly live up to it all back in 2020. Not to mention it was a buggy mess. I started the game on release day, then gave up in frustration about 10 hours in. Just didn't feel it.

But now in 2022, the bugs and the expectations have been removed, and it turns out to be a really fun game with a beautiful open world. It doesn't quite live up to a GTA world, but I'll take it because its full of megabuildings and blades that pop out of my robot arms and sick af cars (that admittedly aren't that much fun to drive). A lot of the sidequests are very well written with cool characters and varied settings. A sequel or director's cut would do this world wonders.

The best Star Wars game in a long time. I can't remember the last time I played through a game in one weekend. Hopefully they make a sequel.

Straightforward management sim, but very addictive! Some people complain that the battles and events are too random, but that's life, I say. I wish there was more gambling--I should be able to bet my gold on my gladiators. Great game!
