As a modcharting / notITG fanatic, graphic designer, shader enthusiast, and music producer, I absolutely love this.

It took a bit of trial and error to get working on Linux but seems to work flawlessly on the latest Proton-GE version.

The tutorial did seem to break on first boot (metronome/beat audio did not play), but it may be a Proton issue. It worked on the next boot, but I was just generally confused as to when I was supposed to be hitting the notes. I figured it out towards the end, vaguely, but it's still one of the weaker parts of the game right now.

I say that lightly, because the game is really nice as-is. The aesthetic is probably the best I've seen out of a released rhythm game so far, and I've tried a lot of them. I do hope that later on in the game, it throws some visual gimmicks and distortions at you and gets a lot more intensive to read, but that's just the side of me that enjoys notITG and "sightreading difficulty" showing.

Currently, it's difficult to assess whether there will be a depth of (rhythmic) patterning in the game, as there's only three levels, none of which go into particular depth in that aspect. I hope there's some more interesting rhythms thrown in later on, as I did find repeating the same rhythm throughout an entire level to be slightly boring after the second or third play. The main issue with this is that reading rhythm in particular is very difficult right now, as the hit indicator is not very precise.

Overall, though, I do really like where this is headed. I'm excited to see early access, and I'll throw any more bugs I find or feedback I have into the thread if I come across any more.

tl;dr - good

quaver, to me, feels like a mix of pretty much every type of vsrg. it's got creative expression with scroll velocity, scroll speed factor, and timing groups. it's got a variety of different mapping styles. it's got the hardest charts you will ever play for zero reason. it's got a good competitive tournament scene. it's got a good community around it. there's some pretty cool clans. the skinning system is pretty thorough if you learn it.

is it the best at any of these? no. if you want fun modcharts, play notITG. if you want pure competitive, standard 4k, play etterna. but if you just like vsrgs and want to have fun doing a bit of everything? play quaver. it's pretty cool.

also: PLEASE use snap colors ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ why does NOBODY use them

also 2: you're allowed to be bad at sv. you're allowed to not like sv. but the maps at their core are designed so well and so fun to play once you get good at it. sv is not bad. give it a try. you'll see.
