NOTE! This is as of early-access, I am optimistic things will change for the better down the line.

I get the idea that they wanted to move towards a more traditional "slower" ARPG, but too much of the core is still PoE 1, and all it really results in is a weird in-between game where a lot of things are retained from PoE 1 that clash with PoE 2's slower and more "chunky" gameplay style. This sort of covers everything from the skill tree and gem systems, to crafting, mapping in end-game, crafting and monster/player balancing etc. And a lot of the "issues" or common complaints so far seem to be issues PoE 1 had in its early days which were resolved, which makes seeing those same issues again in PoE 2 dissapointing.

The end result to me feels like, if I want a laid-back genocide-simulator ARPG with endless build diversity and options for customization, PoE 1 is just better. If I want a proper slower, grittier ARPG which requires me as a player to be a bit more active and not just AFK-farm, there are better alternatives that aren't PoE 2. A lot of secondary aspects such as the graphics, world-building, music and all that is great. But those, to me, play second fiddle to the gameplay and mechanics which currently feel not great.
