This game is nowhere near perfect but it's still probably one of my favorite Sonic games. it just has the sauce

I'll state up front that you may want to wait and see if they make a new port, as this version of the game is... very dated. Don't expect it to work too well out of the box.

The stages are obscenely replayable, the A ranks are super satisfying, and while the Mech and Treasure Hunting stages may take a while to grow on you, once they click they click hard.

The only downside of the PC version is lost chao functionality from the gamecube original, but mods can compensate and make the gameplay experience infinitely better than the gamecube could ever provide.

This remaster is the worst product SEGA has ever sold.

It crashes at random. It runs like ass. It has severe audio issues and playing the game in stereo is genuinely uncomfortable. It looks worse than the Wii counterpart. The gameplay improvements are overshadowed by the added bugs and inconsistencies.

Usually mediocre Sonic ports at least have some mod that fixes/redeems them, but the only existing project, Re-Rainbow, does not fix nearly enough to make the port acceptable. This game has next to no community mod support, do not purchase it expecting "the fans" to fix this one.

SEGA had absolutely zero quality assurance for this product, and the fact that it is still being sold for $40 base price at the time of writing is a crime. Don't even bother getting this game on sale, you are better off learning how to emulate, which I really wish I didn't have to say.

I need to reiterate, Sonic Colors is my favorite game of all time. This was my most anticipated game of 2020. Seeing it in this state frustrates me to no end, and I wish I had at least one nice thing to say about it.

this is a fun, goofy little game with cute art, cute characters, stupid jokes, and enjoyable gameplay. it is a wonderfully nonsensical trip. highly recommend if you breathe air

an absolute masterpiece. the greatest game ever made. there is nothing better than SEGA Bass Fishing. this is a MUST play for any video gamer.

i could write a long review like i did for puyo puyo champions but i could also summarize everything in one line so here we go

puyo and tetris don't mix and this game doesn't understand that well enough. wait for puyo puyo tetris 2.

addendum - 11/25/2021: this game is just puyo puyo tetris 2 but with inferior content and slightly better netcode, in case you're wondering

Addendum - 11/25/2021: re-tagging as not recommended and added note about Puyo Puyo Chronicle. the playerbase, without cross-platform multiplayer to let us fight NS users, is too small to justify this game. you pretty much will only be able to play with friends.

i'm sure the competitive scene's many dedicated players will still be willing to boot up this game to play a match with you, but if you're not the type to go out and seek matches like that, just get a different puyo game, especially on switch, it'll be far more worthwhile.

if someone from SEGA is reading this, thank you for localizing this game, and releasing the past few titles worldwide at least. but please, push to add cross-platform multiplayer for your next release in the series. PC, PS4, and *especially* Xbox need it. i know it can be hard to implement, and a lot to ask for, but it'll improve the multiplayer experience tenfold for everyone.

Puyo Puyo Champions is a great game. For Competitive Puyo.

This game isn't the best for Casuals, and if you're coming off of Puyo Puyo Tetris, I'd recommend looking at other entries in the series if you have means to obtain them, Particularly Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary (Wii, NDS, 3DS), and the freshly fan-translated Puyo Puyo Chronicle (3DS)

This game was made because Puyo Puyo Tetris has a few flaws regarding competitive puyo play, and there were no other Puyo games available on PS4, Switch, etc., so Puyo Puyo Champions was built specifically for competitive on modern systems.

This game has very harsh ranking systems, and you shouldn't expect ranked to be a ladder to climb. It's not a ladder, it's a mountain. It'll have ups and downs. Your rank will very easily plummet below the base of 2000 when you first start out, but you can improve!

Lesson mode and challenge mode are great for learning the basics of how to chain, and the Singleplayer vs. CPU matches can be great for learning how to chain under mild pressure.

However, I must admit that the PC version of the game is.. subpar, simply. I can't recommend this version unless you can't buy the Nintendo Switch/Playstation 4 versions. It's leaderboards have hackers, it's playerbase is all but dead, and the upside of custom character mods doesn't really help it outweigh it's negatives.

Overall, it's a great game for Competitive Puyo Puyo, but not the best for beginners to the series or more casual players. It has the tools to help you learn, and the ranking system is great, but if you have no drive for Competitive Puyo, you can very well pass on this entry and it won't hurt too much.

oh, and we can all agree that carbuncle never needed to be re-dubbed for english, right??? like why all he says is gu, sega please explain
