Annoying as ♥♥♥♥ in some places but I suppose that's the sacrifice for realism. When it's not irritating it's pretty exceptional.

Probably the best set pieces I've ever seen in games. Exploration is fun and rewarding and puzzles are casual but interesting. Combat is cool, too. The story is crazy as ♥♥♥♥.

"Need to find another way in": The Game

When this game is good: it's a fantastic RPG full of choices that matter, brilliant characters with exceptional writing behind them and an immersive world steeped in rich and expansive lore. When it's bad: it's irritating, repetitive and cumbersome.

Fortunately, most of the time it's good.

It's quicker to just point out what this game gets wrong than what it gets right, so you can assume that all other aspects are exceptional, or, at the least, very good.

• Some sequences are ruined because the designers use enemies just to pad them out
  
  
• The graphics were nerfed before release, the lighting is kind of flat and the foliage looks wack in 1080p or lower resolutions, but otherwise it's still visually pretty good on ultra
  
  
• Horse controls are sometimes annoying
  
  
• Large sections of some regions are empty and presumably left over from content that was cut before release, mostly in Velen, so instead of moving the world borders they just added some bandit camps and boring loot
  
  
• The economy is lazy and based solely off selling weapons from people you kill to merchants. Quest rewards are also sometimes extremely disappointing and disproportionately weak compared to gear that's supposed to be much more common
  
  
• The combat is too easy to cheese, you can basically get through the whole game by just mashing light attack. But it's no fun that way so I recommend you try and vary your moves, you can actually get really good at fighting in this game and it can be really satisfying; make each strike purposeful

Unless any of that sounds deal breaking, buy it. And get the GOTY edition, the expansions are superior to the base game.

I cried to the ending of this incredible, story-driven, emotional journey about a boy who wants nothing more than friendship.
