FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

after playing this game for a good couple of hours after my college class, I'm happy with my first impressions. I'll update this review later on once I complete it.

this game is not an "unplayable buggy mess equivalent to Cyberpunk's launch", nor is it a perfect miracle. It's a beautiful, flawed, and enjoyable miracle. The visuals are absolutely beautiful and well made, though have issues with shadows, reflections not being so good, and some blurriness from upscaling. The gameplay is smoothed out and refined compared to previous games, but can feel (slav)jank still with slower aiming weapons and mutants being real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to kill. The ukranian voice acting is great, whereas the english VA's don't do as great of a job.

There's positives, and negatives. But, for me, the positives greatly outweigh the negatives, and I am very happy with what I have experienced so far - but I still have a long, long way to go...

another thing that I want to point out: the performance; arguably this games most controversial factor. Some people defend it, saying GSC went through extremely hard times and the fact this game was even released was insane. Others are saying it's a lazy cop-out with upscaling and frame gen to ignore optimization. For me, I understand both sides. I personally feel... fine using upscaling for better FPS, but do wish this game had some more time taken in the optimization department. stutters are present, frame drops do occur in certain areas. on my 4070ti, 32gb ram, i9-12900F system, I generally got 110-135 FPS on Epic settings with upscaling and frame gen. not exactly what I would call *great* performance... but it works for me, and I can't complain.

for bugs and glitches, I haven't really found any that affect gameplay in a major or noticeable way. this game is far from being as broken as Cyberpunk, and those who say that are either trolling or don't remember how bad Cyberpunk was at launch. This game is completely playable. Cyberpunk wasn't.

I do hope for bug fixes and updates - primarily addressing performance. I have hope for GSC to continue their streak with how many Day 1 patches they've released (two or three now?).

Overall, great job GSC. I'm loving it so far. Be sure to play with Ukranian VA's and English subs. Slava Ukraini!

call of duty if it was actually difficult and skill based.
its honestly amazing I never played this game, really fun and beautiful multiplayer fps game.

bullets being realistically simulated keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with my muscle memory but its all good. I will say I swear to god bullets dont register/pass through enemies sometimes though, its annoying.

def buy it tho.

absolutely amazing remake, nearly on the levels of RE2R. this is coming from someone who has deeply analyzed and adored the original SH2 for a few years now.

the visuals, the atmosphere, audio, gameplay, it is all perfect or almost perfect. I had the best time I could imagine playing this remake and I am so happy the 2 year wait was worth it.

I was always a believer in bloober team's abilities with the SH2 remake, but I didn't think it'd be *this* good. I had some worries - like Angela being butchered, James being too emotional, etc. - but it seems my worries were not needed. Bloober managed to portray all the characters meaningfully and their voice actors all did such great jobs. while I do sort of prefer the original in terms of the deliveries, the camera angles, and the overall disconnected feel, the remake does a very good job too. James' VA - Luke Roberts - is SOOOO GOOD AT HIS ROLE. he understood the assignment and A++'d it.

I feel everyone else does a good job. I was especially happy with Eddie, who, in my opinion, was actually IMPROVED in the remake compared to the original. rather than being the silly fat guy eating pizza, he's now much more disassociated, psychotic, and cold. the portrayal of his crazy character was done well in the original, yes, but in the remake its much more palpable and realistic. really makes me feel like im watching someone fall into mental insanity.

Angela is good! let me just say that. angela is done well and I have no real issues with her, or how the VA did. her trauma and past is unchanged from the original, and is just as depressing and uncomfortable. the abstract daddy fight is HORRIFYING and is gonna make a lasting impact on my mind. I do think the original did the fiery staircase better, but I was still greatly satisfied with the remake's efforts. akira's music does not disappoint!

Maria is an interesting case. she's arguably the most controversial part of this remake, and I... LIKED HER. sorry silentbros. I think she's done great in this remake. her talking with james while running around with him makes her feel more fleshed out and real. she definitely can comment on my actions a little bit less, but overall she is great. still seductive, trying to get James to stay with her and cause him to fall into the loop once more.

now, onto the visuals. THIS IS THE BEST LOOKING GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN HANDS DOWN. the visuals are expertly crafted, and the atmosphere is upper echelon stuff. very realistic, but none of that overly shiny, wet, and saturated crap that so many devs call "realism". its REAL REALISM. It's a bit desaturated, it's not always wet, its dirty, grimy and gross. the otherworld is genuinely terrifying - the sounds, the looks, the EVERYTHING. the otherworld is alive and it feels like it was eating me the more I searched it.

the music is great as always! no need to explain, its AKIRA YAMAOKA. what more can I say? I'm so happy some of the original tracks - like Alone In The Town and Black Fairy for example - made it into the game unchanged. the other remixes and new versions are great and help the remake stand out. the audio design is also suuuuper immersive. it is 100% going to make you just want to walk around and take everything in, horrifying or not.

the gameplay is passable. It's way better than the original - but sometimes can feel too action-y especially near the end of the game. while I do enjoy shooting the various monsters that haunt James, it gets a bit repetitive to do 1.) shoot the legs 2.) slap with plank/pipe few times 3.) stomp. the prison is especially guilty of this to be honest... but it's all good! I still highly enjoyed my time fighting, and the boss fight changes are very welcomed. my favorite fights were double pyramid head and abstract daddy. I just wish you could run away from enemies... that part being gone is a bummer when it comes to silent hill games.

OH and the performance. I have an RTX-4070, 32 GB RAM, and a 24-CPU i9 processor. I averaged about 80-100 fps outside and about 120-160 inside, depended on the place though. stutters will happen in outdoor areas, but die off during indoor ones. the stutters don't make the game unplayable thankfully, so it's not a big issue for me. UE5 moment tbh. (for a hint, turn off raytracing, put shaders to medium, and shadows to low. game looks great and you get 20-30 FPS boost!)

overall? one of the best games i've ever played, and I will keep playing this thing until I unlock all 8 endings. I am super happy this remake did well, and I will happily give bloober the ability to remake SH1, 3, and 4 (though I am shaky on an SH3 remake).

(and no, the game doesn't have DEI woke ♥♥♥♥ in it. shut up.)

probably the best in the soul series. I love dark souls 3, even if it does have flaws.

the game has a faster pace of gameplay more akin to that of elden ring's, which - for me personally - clicked a lot better. the fights feel way better designed overall than DS1's as well - enemies and bosses alike.

the visuals are stunning. as I have discussed with my friends before, DS3 from a graphical standpoint isn't all that amazing, but the art direction flips that on its side and makes DS3 beautiful. the colors all blend together perfectly, the environments feel alive, and its just a further improvement of the already memorable art style that fromsoft had back in 2011. hell, even in demon souls.

overall a must play for any dark souls fan, and is also the best game to introduce people to dark souls with.

this games weird.

on my first playthrough it was hell, and I hated playing most of it. coming from elden ring (probably the worst way to experience this, I should say), the slower paced gameplay was a mind♥♥♥♥ for me. having to re-learn how to play what was essentially a slower elden ring wasn't fun, and just made me annoyed and angry. in the end, I still beat the game, but decided to just throw it to the side.

then, I chose to replay it, and give it a second shot. this time around, I LOVED the game. despite my issues with the gameplay system, I had always highly appreciated everything else - the world, visuals, music, story. I feel like those elements are what kept me playing the first time even I wasn't the happiest. having learned the mechanics and letting them marinate in my silly brain, the game flowed like water, and I beat it in only a few days rather than like, 2 weeks.

this is probably a game you'll despise at first, then fall in love with the more you play. just give it a second chance, chosen undead. you won't regret it.

great game I loved it, I played the remake first then came here. overall, I prefer the remake but this game has amazing moments too - I believe it does some characters (salazar, saddler) in superior fashion compared to the remake, and the horror aspects are stronger.

the gameplay is definitely 2005 TPS though. tank controls can be annoying and not moving while aiming is just bleh. the aiming making leon move and not the camera is also strange but I got mostly used to it - it's just how it was back in 2005 I suppose.

great game. recommend both og and remake.

while this dlc has issues with annoying bosses (like scaudtree avatar and commander gaius for example), enemies, and sometimes confusing map layouts, its really not that bad. I quite enjoyed my time with it. I recommend if you enjoy stupid amounts of challenge. if not, dont play and stick to the base game.

difficult as hell but also fair. I was scared as hell before playing this but damn, it was worth it. also my first soulslike game! would recommend if you've never played any other soulslikes.

since when was a sequel BETTER than the first game
