Nostalgia done right!

I played this game because of the r34 memes.

Most of the negative reviews on this game are from players who are discontent with either the grind or the PvE/PvP community; and I agree with most of their supporting arguments. The current state of the public servers (official or otherwise) definitely leaves much to be desired.

However, if you can afford to host your own server, and have a group of friends to play with, you may just end up finding ARK to be one of the best sandbox survival games out there, as it has plenty to offer to both casual and hardcore players alike.

Everything in this game (including your poop rate) can be modified in the server configuration file; allowing you to tweak any component of the game that may feel a bit grindy. There is also an array of regularly updated mods available in the Steam Workshop that you can install on your server to enhance your gameplay.

If you are still on the fence about getting this game, wait for it to go on sale. You can purchase the base game at a discounted price during almost every Steam sale.

If you're on the fence about playing this game, then do yourself a favor, and just play this game. Don't watch streams or playthroughs, don't read reviews, don't even look at gameplay/screenshots. Go in blind, and you'll know exactly when to thank me for that advice.
