tl;dr: I strongly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the roguelite deckbuilder genre. It's so much better than it looks.

I'm really digging this game! I have to admit I passed it by for a long time because pixel art can look kinda amateurish to me sometimes, and the basic concept didn't really engage me... but I'm sorry about that now! It's weirdly addictive, like any good roguelite. I love deckbuilders, and the scifi pewpew spaceship theme feels really fresh in this genre!

The game follows the (by now) "classic" StS formula: a small one-way map of 3 regions, each with a boss fight; in between, you can fight for more cards, pick up artifacts that give you passive buffs and abilities, or have interesting encounters with the mysterious denizens of the Spire space. Runs take 25-45 min on average. The writing is witty and the characters are likable. The ability to move your character (ship) around the battlefield in relation to the enemy offers a new type of strategy on top of card/energy management and makes the theme more relevant to the gameplay. This was a triumph! I'm making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.

I got this game in a bundle with another from the same dev called "Shogun Showdown" which also uses your character's location and movement on the battlefield as part of the strategy; I'd say this iteration of the idea is better, but that one is fun too and I don't regret buying either.
