If you do intend to play the game, I wish you the best of luck disregarding the in-game store (Eververse). There is still some content to enjoy if you decide to go the F2P route, or if you are to buy the latest two expansions (Witch Queen & Lightfall at the time of this review). The core playlists are usually a blast. Unfortunately, it would be impossible for me, or for most players, to tell you what do you need to buy to make your experience worthwhile, as the game's store page has been confusing.

That said, as a fan of the franchise since the first game's launch, I cannot say that things are in a good place. The connectivity experience has been disappointing, with multiple disconnects which may ruin your progression on games. Two of the primary playlists (Gambit/PvPvE and Crucible/PvP) have yet to receive any significant updates in years, despite the promises made long ago. The content was and still is in some ways great, but has been cut down many times over the past few years and there is little to no gain with every expansion/season, meaning you may run out of things to do fast, unless you are willing to grind the same playlists over and over again (fun to do with friends, not so much without).

You may notice that the vast majority of currently accessible styles of equipment are bound to the in-game store. While I would normally enjoy the idea of purchasing cosmetics, this game has compromised on it's new content and focused it's efforts in support of the in-game store.

Overall, I cannot say I recommend the game at this time due to the unstable servers (connectivity and drifting), new player experience being lacking and due to the lack of content for the price you are expected to pay.
