i tried configuring a xbox one controller before and now it has a label that i put and is unusable so i'm just going to stick to the default controls for games now. if it works then that is best and if not i'll play keyboard and mouse i guess.

Try configuring Insurgency gamepad configuration in big bicture. Also try disabling desktop controls.
