Alexander III Basileus of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon   Pella, Pella, Greece

Alexander III of Macedon (20/21 July 356 BC - 10/11 June 323 BC), commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a king (basileus) of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and a member of the Argead dynasty.
Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander succeeded his father, Philip II, to the throne at the age of twenty. His mother was Olympiada.
He spent most of his ruling years on an unprecedented military campaign through Asia and northeast Africa, and by the age of thirty he had created one of the largest empires of the ancient world, stretching from Greece to northwestern India.
He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered one of history's most successful military commanders.

During his youth, Alexander was tutored by the Greek philosopher Aristotle until the age of 16.
After Philip's assassination in 336 BC, Alexander succeeded his father to the throne and inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army.
Alexander was awarded the generalship of Greece and used this authority to launch his father's Panhellenic project to lead the Greeks in the conquest of Persia.
Alexander's settlement of Greek colonists and the resulting spread of Greek culture in the east resulted in a new Hellenistic civilization, aspects of which were still evident in the traditions of the Byzantine Empire in the mid-15th century and the presence of Greek speakers in central and far eastern Anatolia until the 1920s.
He is often ranked among the most influential people in human history, along with his teacher Aristotle.

He was a Greek:
-His ancestors competed in Olympic games, which only Greeks were allowed.
-He was born in Pella, which was and is in Greece.
-His name is Alexandros, a Greek name. His father Philip had a Greek name as well. Same as his commanders Parmenion, Ptolemy, Craterus, Perdiccas, Philotas, Hephaestion, Clitus, Cassander, Nearchus, Lysimachus, Leonnatus, Antigonus, Peucestas, Seleucus, Antipater, Avreas, Archelaus, Peithon, Amyntas, Polyperchon, Scytheos, Asander, Philonous.
-He spread the Greek culture in whole Asia.
-He worshiped the 12 Olympian Gods of the ancient Greek Polytheism.

Ancient kingdom of Macedonia was an ancient Greek Independent City-State like the City-State of Athena, the City-State of Thebes, the City-State of Thrace, the City-State of Crete and the City-State of Sparta.

Every source says that Phillip was 100% Greek no source saying he was from FYROM and all historians say that Alexander was clearly Greek and i know you will "duh he was from the Kingdom of Macedonia".
Get your facts right people. Ancient Greece wasn't a whole kingdom, it was seperated and guess what Macedonia was and still is today. A Greek region, which back then was known as "The kingdom of Macedonia" and there is no clue that Alexander had to do with Slavs, he didn't know the language, he didn't know their culture, but he was influenced by the Persian culture because of his Persian wife Roxanne.

The ancient Macedonians prior to Philip were either a people that were closely related to the Greeks or that were infact a Greek tribe that spoke a Greek dialect, even though they were often considered "barbarians".
Despite the name and the flag, the modern country of "Makedonija"(FYROM) and its people have no relation to the old civilization since it's culturally a slavic country.
The Slavs first came to the Balkan Peninsula in the 6th and 7th centuries AD. 800-900 years after the death of Alexander the Great.
Alexander was through and through Greek.
That should be NO question.

FYROM stop your nonsense. You're nothing more than ethnic Bulgarians who speak slavic language and has slavic culture.
Alexander spread Greek culture and, yet, Slavs call themselves Macedonians...
VARDARSKA was and will always be your official and unofficial name.

Macedonia is Northern Hellas not North of Hellas!!!

MACEDONIA IS NOT GREEK. MACEDONIA IS GREECE.

"ΕΣΤΙ ΜΕΝ ΟΥΝ ΕΛΛΑΣ ΚΑΙ Η ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ."

"ΠΑΣ ΜΗΝ ΕΛΛΗΝ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΟΣ."
MACEDONIA IS NOT GREEK. MACEDONIA IS GREECE.
"Holy shadows of the dead, I’m not to blame for your cruel and bitter fate, but the accursed rivalry which brought sister nations and brother people, to fight one another. I do not feel happy for this victory of mine. On the contrary, I would be glad, brothers, if I had all of you standing here next to me, since we are united by the same language, the same blood and the same visions."
- Alexander the Great, addressing the dead Hellenes (the Athenean and Theban Greeks) of the Battle of Chaeronea.

:vaporwave:

Alexander himself said that he was son of Achilles from the generation of his mother and son of Hercules from the generation of his father...he call both his parent as Greeks...he said that the campaign against the Persians was a revenge from all Greeks vs the Persians (not Greeks and Macedonians but all Greeks included Macedonians).
Read all historians to check if Macedonians were Greeks or not, and not only Dimosthenis...Dimosthenis was a political enemy of Phillip II and not a realistic historian.
Phillip II as Alexander I took part on the Olympic Games before Macedon conquer the south Greece...so they took part in Olympic Games in an age that only Greeks could take part on Olympic Games...why you think that Macedonians were non-Greeks? Any proofs?

:vaporwave:

Phillip II as Alexander III were born at Pella and Pella belongs to Greece and not at Scopje. Scopje has nothing to do with Macedonia...it was not the country of Phillip II, it was just a conquest of Phillip II (Ancient Paionia) but Phillip II as Alexander III made so many conquests from Balkania to Egypt and India but we can't say that modern Bulgaria or Scopje or India is Macedonia only because were parts of Alexander's and Phillip's empire.

Some useful information for all these who have any doubt about "if" Macedonia = HELLAS :

1. There is no doubt that ancient Macedonians were Greek. It is thoroughly proved by historic documents and archaeological discoveries which can be found in history books and museums in Greece and around the world.
The most important archaeological discovery in Macedonia is the tomb of
King Philip II. It was excavated in Vergina, Greece in 1978 and it
proves beyond any doubt the Greekness of ancient Macedonia. All the
findings are characteristic of the Greek culture and all the inscriptions are written using the Greek language. Among the discoveries of this tomb is the "Vergina sun" the symbol that FYROM attempted to use on its flag initially.
Some facts which prove that ancient Macedonians were Greek.

2. Macedonians spoke a dialect of the Greek language. All the monuments and inscriptions found in the Macedonia region are written in the Greek language. It is also clearly stated by the Latin historian Titus Livius: "Aetolians, Acarnanians, Macedonians, men of the same language..." (T. Livius XXXI,29,15) and the Greek historian Herodotos : "Since they speak the same language, they should end their disputes by means of heralds or messengers..." (Herodotos, The histories 7.9.2)

3. Macedonians had Greek names. All the ancient Macedonian names mentioned in history or found on tombs are Greek. All the kings of Ancient Macedonia had Greek names. Nobody discovered ancient Macedonian names ending to-ov or-ovski or whatever. Alexander's name is Greek. The word "Alexandros" is produced from the pre-fix alex(=protector) and the word andros(=man) meaning "he who protects men". The prefix "alex" can be found in many Greek words today (alexip-toto=parachute, alexisfairo=bulletproof all these words have the meaning of protection). Philip's name is also Greek. It is produced from the prefix Philo(=friendly to something) and the word ippos(=horse) meaning the man who is friendly to horses. The prefix "philo" and the word "ippos" are also found in many words of Greek origin today (philosophy, philology, hippodrome, hippocampus).

4. Macedonians fought together with the rest of the Greeks. Macedonians always fought along with the other Greek city-states against enemies from Asia.

5. Macedonians took part in the Olympic games is well known then ONLY Greeks were allowed to take part in the ancient Olympic games. The first Macedonian who took part in the Olympic games was Alexander I, King of Macedonia between 498-454 BC.

6. Macedonians celebrated the same festivals as the rest of the Greeks. Examples of festivals which were celebrated in Macedonia as well as in other Greek states are the "Hetaireidia", the "Apellaia" and many more.

7. Macedonians worshipped the same Gods as the rest of the Greeks Several temples dedicated to the Greek Gods have been discovered in Macedonia and especially in Dion the religious centre of ancient Macedonians. It is obvious that the Macedonians worshipped the 12 Olympian Gods as the rest of the Greeks The Gods were "living" on Mount Olympus which happens to be located in Macedonia. Would that be possible if there was hostility between Macedonians and Greeks? This is another proof that Macedonia was considered a part of Greece. The regions of ancient Macedonia had Greek names.

8. The regions which formed ancient Macedonia had Greek names. Most of these names are used in Greece even today. You can see a list of the regions of ancient Macedonia: Anthemous, Almopia, Amphaxitis, Bisaltia, Botiaia, Chakildiki, Edonis, Elimeia, Eordaia, Krestonia, Lynkests, Mygdonia, Odomantis, Orestis, Paionia, Pelagonia, Pieria, Sintiki, Thassos, Tymphaea.

I listed them here for two reasons:
1st Because all of them are obviously Greek,
2nd The Slavic propaganda insists that the Greeks changed the Slavic names of regions in Aegean Macedonia in order to eradicate its "Slavic identity".
This list proves that the Greek names originate from the ancient times and consequently they are much older than the Slavic alternatives. Most of these names are used even today by Greece. Macedonian architecture was similar to the Greek architecture. All the buildings found in the Macedonia region have many common characteristics with the ones found in the rest of Greece. Palaces, temples, the markets are characteristic samples of ancient Greek architecture.

Some more evidence from history:
1. The famous ancient Greek play writer Euripides wrote and originally presented most of his plays in Pella, the capital of Macedonia. How is that possible if the audience was spoke a different language?
2. After the battle of the Granikos Alexander the Great sent to Athens some pieces of armour captured from the Persians with the following inscription: "Alexander, son of Philip and the Hellenes, except the Lakedaimonians, offer these spoils taken from the barbarians of Asia".
3. Macedonia was a member of the Delphic Amphictiony, an institution which was open only to Greeks.
4. When Alexander arrived in Asia he visited the ancient Greek town of Troy (Troia), where he sacrificed to the Greek Gods to help him in his quest.

Lol MasoMate, at least give us any argument that you are Macedonian, don't try to prove something by writing about other nations. You came in Balkan peninsula on 600 A.D. Also try to read andient coins/inscriptions. There is no ancient Balkan Slavic nation. Also you can read Prespa Agreement! Don't try to prove something you aren't, all world is laughing. Take care.
