Attempts the same style of gameplay as Nuclear Throne, although this game ends up being much shorter, much easier, much jankier, and with massively inferior graphics, music, and polish. The best thing it's got going for it is that it's free.

(02/14) eta: I've since noticed that ALL negative reviews of this game get Unhelpful'd into oblivion, so read this while you can.

(02/27) edit #2: changed the first sentence to clarify that I don't think the devs are ripping off NT, just that the two games have similar gameplay mechanics.

Ohhh now I get it. Still, Dec 2013 is damn early, wow.

(The December 5, 2015 date on Nuclear Throne's store page is the date the game came out of Early Access with its full retail release.)

Nope, according to my Steam purchase history I bought it in December 2013, shortly after it entered Early Access. It wasn't feature-complete, obviously (I remember the sketchy placeholder art for upgrades, and entire characters being later added to the roster), but it was playable and fun.

Well, at least now I know which came first.
Man, this conversation was oddly nice, considering this is still the internet.

Btw, when you said you purchased NT in December 2013, you meant December 2015 right? Because I'm slightly confused now...

Following links from that video, it's clear that development started in Summer 2014. The main thing I took away, though, is that the (late-alpha? early-beta?) art assets remain more or less unchanged in the final version. Yikes.

Thanks for taking the trouble to investigate.

._.
Since I couldn't find any date in the wikia, I just searched for RH related things in Google prior to 8/15, and there's even a video from 2014. Maybe the dates aren't correct, but...

Here's the video btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIT-RxESR8w

Aethornis: The press release for RH:Z states that they've been making the game "over the past year" prior to release. The Rogue Snail (dev/coder) page for RH:Z states that the development took place over "3 months in our spare time" in an August 2015 post. I will concede that I hadn't checked their development timeline before now, but it looks to me like Nuclear Throne predates them. Note that I am NOT accusing the devs of ripping off Nuclear Throne, just remarking that both games have top-down arena-shooter-esque gameplay and giving my opinion that NT does it better.

JAIF: No problemo. I had inexplicable FPS issues too, for whatever that's worth.

TOUCH FUZZY, GET BUSY: I was totally unaware haha my bad! Wikipedia confirms. Havent had any bugs out of this game though unless you count it running slowly for apparently no reason.

I gotta say you're right, people downvote too easily. Haven't had problems with bugs yet, but who knows. And talking about the release date, if you look it up you can see this game was a thing way before NT, even if we take in consideration the Early Access.
Well, I might be wrong, but that's what I found.

JAIF: Nuclear Throne was in Early Access for about two years, and superior to this product for nearly all of that time. I myself purchased NT in December 2013.

Aethornis: That's a good point, but the reviews that mention the frequent crashes, refusals to load, and graphical bugs still get downvoted despite being arguably true and helpful. Relic Hunters crashed--hard--twice for me during my two hours of playtime.
