They released a good update, knowing the game was being killed to milk people one last time. Never going to support an AGS game ever again. Too bad, this game was actually becoming good again, too.

update 5/25/2025: every time I think about re-installing this game, I think of having to run chaos trials and Sekhema trials to ascend and nahhh

0.2 patch is really rushed. It's less fun to play than 0.1, and the performance is awful.

edit: They released an emergency patch to reduce monster hp by 25%, so they know the patch is bad based on player retention. GGG had to revert the patch due to a poor implementation. So they knew they messed up 12 hours after the patch release, but somehow didn't understand this during all their internal play testing? Something isn't right at GGG if this is their new direction.

TLDR: Fun to level, endgame is boring as hell, and they aren't interested in changing that.

Decent game. I had a lot more hours in the Bethesda launcher. My overall current rating for the game is a thumbs down, but only because I have so many hours in it. Overall I have to give a Positive review, because the game is quite fun for a while.

The last map expansion was just so boring that I quit the game. I came back before its release and was excited for new content, but the new content was utterly boring. The map expansion was nice. It has the usual polish. But the end game activities were very poorly designed and thought out.

End game activities are not engaging. Bosses are just bullet sponges with very little mechanics, or uninteresting mechanics. The new public event was very poorly designed. You spend more time trying to find enemies to shoot than actually fighting enemies. When I found myself getting frustrated enemies are dying too fast as everyone rushes to get tags on them, I realized that the game was not fun any more.

I got a lot of hours out of it, but I won't be back.

1.2 Update:

REALLY good ARPG. If the team can keep iterating like this on gameplay and graphics, this game will be around for a long while.

Great game. Really good for a 1.0 launch, especially compared to games likes D4bad. Its difficulty is somewhere between Path of Exile and D4. You can pick up the game and make a decent build on the fly that will get to end game. It may not get very far though, so then you can start optimizing gear, skills, etc.

Decent graphics
Performance needs optimized
Fun and interesting classes
Good replayability (you can skip most of the campaign via the dungeon skip)
Besides the initial network scaling issues on launch, no issues with dc's, or crashes
Good monetization, just cosmetics so far
Team communicates very well so far

My first MMO was Dark Ages of Camelot. I haven't felt that kind of new game magic after all these years... Until Mortal Online.

It truly is a paradigm shift for massively multiplayer games. As I travel across the first continent, I feel a sense of wonder and exploration over every hillcrest. My eyes are constantly searching the horizon, admiring the lands, but also on the lookout for the potential danger of enemies-- both AI and human. There is a very real sense of exploration and rewarding adventure. I find myself treading very carefully in this game; dreading any missteps that would lead to an untimely demise.

Death is meaningful in this game. You will value your life and your possessions, because if you are not careful, you will be relieved of them by unseen sheer cliffs, angry bears, or scheming humans. When I fight other players, my heart races and adrenaline surges because if I misplay, I will feel the pains of defeat that you only experience in full loot PVP games.

The game pacing is more tactful and deliberate. You don't grind mindless content hoping for the meta rare drops. You plan out your character according to your very specific personal play style. Gathering resources and gear takes careful planning and strategy. You invest time traveling dangerous lands with your guild to gear everyone up so you can protect your lands from would be invaders. Practice 1 on 1 fights on foot and horseback, practice small scale and large scale battles so that you're ready when the enemy comes to plunder your homes.

The first time you die and lose everything you were carrying, you may throw your hands up and say that this game is unfair. Or that it's just not fun to lose your gear and your horse. But once you get over those first painful deaths, you will realize that the weight behind your losses is what makes the game so enjoyable. It makes you think about what you could have done differently in a way other games just can't match.

This is more of a thinking game than you're expecting in every aspect, and if you invest the time and patience, it could be one of the most rewarding games you've ever played.
