Wonderful smart send-up of visual novels (with a heart of its own). Do not play if darkness is a concern. That ending. Man, I love that ending.

This game is a very well-crafted exercise in frustration. That is, as the narrator reminds us, the point.

This game should not work anywhere near as well as it does. Tremendous proof of the power of well-integrated narration and game mechanics. You will sympathize with blocks.

As with most of the civilization games, I've spent entirely too much time on this monster. While 4 is still my gold standard (largely due to mods and satisfying systems), this game had a lot to offer after two expansions. Haven't tried 6 yet, but I'm interested to see how it will build on some of the fundamental changes introduced here.
