Early Access Review
Currently in early access but a great game already. There's something special here. It borrows a lot of different mechanics from other games but executes them really well. It's a little satisfactory but with simplified building; and a little tower defence with the same sandboxy exploration charm that games like minecraft have. I'd definitely recommend it if you're a fan of games like that.

Beautifully realised world with fleshed out characters that you cannot help but fall in love with. The story disects the glitz and glamour, the filth, and violence of the setting. At time it's trope-y, but I expect that from the genre. The mission design follows a familiar pattern but the length of the game is such that it doesn't become tedious. Much has been said about the ending and I will add to that as well (SPOILER WARNING HERE!): I wish it had gone the good rather than the sad way. It would have set up things further and the resolution would have felt less bitter.

TL;DR: I think it tries to capture and mostly succeeds both a time gone by and the first game. I would recommend it if you want an on-the-rails, compact and story-driven experience.

Oh gosh, I really wanted to love this game. It's gorgeous and the gimmick is so interesting it just... I wish I could say it isn't executed well. It just mostly isn't executed *at all* which I think is a cardinal sin! The art is gorgeous and the premise is interesting enough but the jokes are for dads and the story is for kids. It's a deeply confused game that doesn't know what it is. The central gimmick promises a lot but delivers very little. It feels like function follows form -- the developed came up with a great idea for game-play and then had to throw story and other things at it, arriving at a very unimaginative world of imagination (oxymoronically enough) with gorgeous art and fun music but that's about it.

A really solid Hades-like with some really interesting ideas. More than other rogue-likes, which already are random, Lost In Random embraces randomness as a theme and a mechanic. It doesn't try to offset it as much as it asks you to play with it. At times, that can be frustrating, but it's also exciting. I haven't had two runs that felt alike in the way I played around my relics and arsenal.

What the game could improve upon is visual clarity, particularly in the third and fourth world, where the telegraphing of attacks isn't always clear and can devolve into random dodges rather than skill-based gameplay. Nonetheless, it scratches the Hades itch while doing something truly original. It's definitely somewhat easier than Hades, in my opinion, which also results in a relatively shorter run-time with a smaller cast of characters, but the world feels well fleshed out and imaginative.

I can't say that I enjoyed the relatively short time I've spent with this game. The opening was quite a slog to get through for me, feeling more like a movie on rails than engaging gameplay. The weapons that I've tried were not particularly tech-heavy (might have been that I picked badly) and the gameplay felt like a less user-friendly and not fun hack and slash with unnecessarily long and repetitive encounters. The fidelity was of course not what was promised and the experience was laggy at best and unplayable at worst, which is a shame. I really wanted to love the game and really wanted to spend time with my adorable palico friend but I can't say that I cared for the story, the gameplay, or the graphics enough to carry me more than 3 hours through it.

Its a nice little game. Unfortunately both me and my partner were experiencing bugs throughout the whole game. Enjoyed the puzzles, albeit they seemed a bit easy. Bugs are preventing me from wanting to buy the sequel which is a shame because I enjoyed the game otherwise. Also it's quite short but it's free so that's alright in my books. Hope the expansion is longer considering its paid.
