Unbelievable. I am so much disgusted with what happened here, I wanted to write a review. I have waited for this game for so long. Then some more because it wasn't very cheap when it got released. Now this summer sale I bought it to see what are they offered, after all that time, and I have to say, I've never been disappointed by any game as much as I disappointed by this one.

Is this the result of all those years of work? Where is the vision? As someone who played Warband for quite some time, I can only ask, what is the difference? Interactions with NPCs same, start of the game, where you choose your background is same, skill-tree changed a bit but still same, map looks quite similar, combat is almost exactly the same, the training area more or less same. I can see some QoL changes where you don't enter the village while recruiting the troops, but even then Warband was far quicker than this.

I try to take a job, but it says I don't have enough army for that. What is it to you? Maybe I enjoy destroying my armies this way? Give me the job. Or I go to another person to get other jobs. This person mysteriously knows that I am in another task. How? I don't even have renown, how do you know that I am trying to hunt 2 mountain bandit groups. Like if you are going to make repetitive useless tasks, at least make them stackable, so we feel less stupid.

Entering the villages, cities, I can see there are more people and details, but people still look quite soulless to me. Couple of sentences, and they are in repeat.

Honestly, this game feels like a graphic overhaul of Warband, and doesn't offer anything new for the price its asking. Only reason I am not refunding this is I already passed 2 hours limit, by 1 hour.

I am still pissed, maybe after some time I will play some more and edit this comment to vent off a little bit more.

If this game was just its mining component, I would've still recommended it. Other parts about factory building, resource management, and unlocking technology are, for the most of the part, better or same with the games of this genre. But mining and terrain handling is what makes this game a true gem in my eyes.

Retaining wall concept for example is hands down something I liked very much. It is still in the early access and being developed but maybe losing some vehicles due to landslides could be added. I think only this part is missing for the mining part.

Edit: I've found another thing that make this game excel at factory building: Being able to work with temporary solutions. Many others also have this, to some degree, but Captain of Industry just takes it to another level.

For example, you are building some production chain, but one ingredient is far far away. So your normal solution to this at many other games of the genre is belts all the way. This is the inefficient solution, until you open trains or drones or whatever. But dragging that belt is a job itself. And this is just for one product. When you have multiple of them, overhead grows drastically.

Captain of Industry solves this with trucks. No matter where you have an ingredient, if you have something, and need it somewhere else, trucks will help you carry them around. This way you can just focus on building stuff, instead of constantly worrying where is the best place to build this, or how to connect existing storage network. After you finish the initial base, of course better bigger bases could be build other places, with proper belts and pipes. And best part of the trucks is that they are there from the very beginning of the game. So the factory always works, if you make it work faster, temporarily, then you would add more trucks, until you can efficiently connect ingredients into factories.

Another example of this temporary solutions is that almost everything is either burnable or dump-able. So an ingredient is clogging the production chain, just throw it into the ocean, or burnt it to the ground, until you find a better solution, of course.

This increases the amount of the recipes in the game, because there are many different ways to handle a problem, so complexity could get out of hand very quickly. But they also introduced some neat concepts, that other games have it as mods, into the game very nicely.

For example, the recipe book (F1), becomes your go to place whenever you want to build something around the mid-game. It is concise, lists all the recipes, available or not, and allows you to build required building directly from the menu.

I am still learning a lot, so may add more edits later on. 20 hours passed, still hooked.

When others are making simulation games, they should follow this game's lead. Fun mechanics, nice incremental upgrades, different types of ships to work on, gradually harder concepts to tackle, and existing story for who you are. It gets really high place when you compare it with other simulation games. Definitely recommending with some notes:

1- If you are just here for therapeutic ship-breaking action, open it in the open shift difficulty. Standard is ok but at the beginning made me feel like I am never finishing the game, almost had me leave it.

2- If you are playing career, mid-game is getting bit slower than other parts. Keep that in mind.

I believe these are some balancing issues, but not really that important. Anytime you sit, you would get into shipbreaking in 1 minute. And since the tools we use are just a simple bunch, you also won't really forget how to use them.

A good addition to this game, DLC-wise, would be to open your own salvage shop and being free of Lynx for real. Maybe having some more cutters to work on other ships while you try to be the biggest salvage company in the solar system.

It would remind me the ETS2's way of doing things. You can always drive the truck, but also at the side, you are building you empire and that would be very rewarding for someone who finished their journey, just to discover it is just beginning.

Fast paced space turn-based strategy game. Just played two games, liked it. Great replay value, different ways to win. Only problem is the auto-build, just don't use it, most of the time it just builds unnecessary things. Also, would've been better if there was a inter-star system transfers for the production and other things. But still, liked it, recommend it
