Genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. It's an indie game with a great story, great humour, great gameplay. It feels like it was designed by people who fully focused on making a fun game rather than adding annoying arbitrary mechanics to make it artificially harder. I haven't ever felt screwed over by any bad game design. There's zero RNG so every outcome is completely up to you. For every hole you dig yourself into, you can dig yourself out with some thinking. I could talk for hours.

Jesus christ the ending gave me severe mental testicular torsion. Play it if you want an IRL existential crisis speedrun.

Terrible, janky game with possibly the most dogs**it community I've ever seen.
The only good thing about it are the instruments which allow me to shred Megalovania on a xylophone

tl;dr at the bottom.
+ Some vehicles are controllable and allow you to steer while shooting, which is a fun mechanic.

- The game has a stealth system which is almost completely useless. Enemies detect you really easily. Crouching to avoid making sound means you have to painfully move at a slug's pace, which ruins the purpose of trying to be sneaky when you can't cross a big open area fast enough without being detected.
- Sprint allows you to move at a whopping speed of 1.10x your normal walk speed.
- The enemies can laser you down. Not inherently bad, but keep reading to see the problem.
- The game has a bug where the enemies can see you through some walls and laser you through them with pinpoint accuracy.
- Ladders are broken.
- Bad enemy placement decisions on some parts.
Climb a ladder (which is broken and might get you stuck on the top for 2 seconds). Get lasered by a helicopter, a turret and a few other enemies as there's almost no cover.
Get fired at by an RPG guy, hide behind a rock, get 1-shot by a sniper.
etc.
- The enemies seemingly have heat-seeking vision.
+ But that's alright, you get night-vision goggles at one point that allow you to also see where the enem- "Oh they're already out of batteries and take a while to recharge, okay. That's fine, I'll just hide behind this rock and wait it out."
Get 1-shot by a sniper.
Medium difficulty btw.
- Doors close behind you for no reason sometimes which can get you killed if you try to walk backwards to take cover.
- Funny default keyboard configuration.
See 2 monsters. Throw your grenade (G key). Notice that you threw a smoke. Try switching to a grenade (H key). Over-reach and hit the J key which drops your weapon and auto-equips your empty sniper rifle. "Whatever. I'll just hide behind the door I just came through".
DOOR STUCK
Get clapped.
- Various other bugs or game design oversights.
eg. There was a part where I approached a door. As soon as I cross the door, an enemy spawned behind me and lasered me down before I had the chance to realise where I was getting shot from. I'm guessing the devs thought the player would 100% approach from one side of the door and they placed the enemy spawn opposite to it. If that's the case, they didn't account for their own level design which allows you to approach from the spawn side.
- No FOV options ingame.
- The story and voice acting is laughably bad. Watch this timestamped youtube link for the greatest action scene in a Far Cry game ever.

I haven't finished it and probably won't. I'm sure it was a fun game back when it was released in 2004, but it's too janky to be enjoyable nowadays. I'm sure some people enjoy masochistic pain and see all the aforementioned bugs and questionable game design choices to be a worthy challenge. I, too, make dumb life choices sometimes and play certain video games on notorious difficulties (eg. Halo LASO) just so I can say I completed them, but at least those ones aren't made hard by bugs, questionable game design or straight up oversights.

tl;dr: Very buggy. Lots of bad game design. Story is not captivating. The game is very hard but not the "fun" kind of hard. Read some of the other negative reviews to get less rambly insights.

Very fun to play with friends.
Extreme rigged garbage waste of time if playing with bots.

I have probably killed 2 families so far on accident by crushing them while trying to make a right turn from the left lane, and I've gotten about 5 speeding tickets plus a ticket for driving without headlights at night all in one trip because I don't know traffic laws.
The other 90% of the game where you drive peacefully from A to B while listening to music is pretty soothing.
The ability to add your own custom music to the game is pretty sick.

The biggest complaint I have is that the default FOV is 55 and there is no FOV slider. The only way to change the FOV is to edit it in registry which means you can put it to 80-90 but some animations will look slightly broken.
With that out of the way. The visuals, soundtrack, voice acting and atmosphere are all comfy af. The story is there but it's more of a "all about the journey, not the destination" kind of game and there's no real satisfying conclusion at the end. The game might be a "walking simulator" and some people might want to argue about petty semantics of whether Firewatch is a game or not, but either way it's an experience and the visuals and atmosphere were worth it.
With that said I got it for €5 on a sale and I was happy. I wouldn't get it for the full price (€20)

also ♥♥♥♥ that raccoon I almost got a heart attack
