is it nothing like saints row 2? yes. but i really don’t see why it should. gta is a open world crime game with a serious undertone but over the top humor throughout. in that regard sr2 isn’t anything new or unique. though this review is written from the perspective of someone who played sr2 after sr3 and sr4. i don’t have much nostalgia for it.

where saints row shines for me is in its parody. it harkens back to the days of 80s spoof movies like airplane! and loaded weapon 1. saints row 4 ran from that premise towards something more like kung fury. which is still good! but it’s not the same tone as the unrealistic yet grounded spoof movies in the 80s.

saints row returns to that style of spoof. and it does it well. your allies are definitely caricatures but they are still charming in their own ways. the writing might seem a bit out of touch to some people, but to me it seems like a case of the “reality is unrealistic” trope. as a gen z person myself the characters just seem to be on that awkward cusp of millennial and zoomer, and feels accurate in that way.

overall an enjoyable game if you have a certain perspective you approach it from. if you’re looking for more boomer era open world crime game you won’t find it here.

absolutely awful game, controls are hard to rebind, movement is literally impossible to rebind (i was forced to use a controller emulating a keyboard), using items is really buggy and it's impossible to tell whether you or your friends are using an item.

outside of the controls, its the exact same copy paste interactions over and over so it's not like i can even overlook it's flaws, there's no redemption.

A game that will suck you in, you won't stop playing for a while...

I really enjoyed the 3 hours it took to beat this game. A wonderful abstract artistic walking sim that has a few flaws but definitely makes up for them.

Flaws including there's like 3 puzzles, one of them was really difficult to figure out, the rest were very easy. But it just seems off for there to be so few puzzles if you're going to have any.

But there's one flaw I can't overlook. One flaw that makes the game neigh unplayable. R cannot be bound.

I use colemak so my movement keys are F - R - S - T instead of WASD. I literally cannot move to the left normally in this game. And I have no clue how its even possible that its setup this way. I had to bind left to W (Q equivalent in WASD).

This made the movement very clunky and awful to control, and for this I just simply cannot recommend the game.
