Truly a hidden gem that has no right being free to play

Streamed the entire thing over 2 hours to a friend and we both thoroughly enjoyed it with a few laugh out loud moments both from the characters and the gameplay just being dumb fun. The game looks great, plays great and is just that right level of challenge to keep it interesting whilst still being a quick and easy bit of fun.

Literally the only downside is that its so short and there isn't more of it because I just want to keep playing

An all-round good sequel to shadow of mordor. Its not radically different and the only ways in which it is different is that it takes what it had in SOM and improves it, especially the nemesis system. In SOM i never really experinced the nemesis system to its full extent because hardly anyone ever came back when i killed them and very few uruks encountered me twice(not to blow my own trumpet but talion is OP). In SOW however this happened loads i had captains appearing everywhere and each one had a different line to say to me (well, most of the time, bards always said "The singers song will never end" and then promptly lost their heads) about how they hated me for something that had happened to them or another orc. I had one olog who I got from a loot crate(I know, I know) who on his first mission for me caved in one guys head and decided that because that uruks bodily fluids were now all over his face they were now blood brothers and he promptly betrayed me and killed me. I sought revenge and i followed him to the nearest fortress and put a massive hole in his stomach, end of story, except not really (I cant believe I just quoted a poem from my english exam). Later I was wandering around when BAM, ambush, no problem(ologs may be a new enemy for SOW but they're actually really easy to kill since you can dodge every single attack with relative ease), this time I detached his head from his body and thought that has to be it, he cant come back from that. Now, this game has necromancy allowing some uruks and you late game to bring back the dead, and yep, you guessed it, this guy came back. Now this was my first real experience of what this nemesis system had to offer. Ur-Heku drake slayer, who i just beheaded, is stood in front of me except now he looks different, his face is mishapen and he has stitches all over his body to show he's been through a rough time (courtesy of me) and his name has now changed to Ur-Heku the Stitch to reflect his condition. Now thats cool. I immediately wanted to control this guy again except when I branded him he had iron will so I couldnt so I ended up killing him anyway. It is at this point that I travel to another region (this game is huge and has 5!!!) and during the loading screen a tip came up and said that shaming has a chance to remove the iron will effect. Consider me annoyed. Very annoyed

Now, I mentioned the fact the that there are 5 regions (cirith ungol, gorgoroth, nurnen, seregost and minas ithil/morgul) all of which look realy nice and each one different from the others. Gorgoroth has lots of fire and volcanic land, nurnen is more green and natural and seregost is icy and cold. I cant fault how these regions look but what i can fault is the amount of content in these regions. In my opinion the maps may be bigger than in SOM but they dont feel as though they have as much to do in them, this may be because they are spread over a bigger area or there may just be the same / less amount of missions and artifacts as in the first game. Because of this i didnt really feel like continuing to play like i did with SOM because i dont like just wandering around aimlessly, i have to have something to aim for and i very quickly collected all the artifacts and shelob memories(which results in a pretty cool cutscene) leaving me with not much to do.

The campaign is ok. It didnt really feel as though it had any drive or particular reason as to why you were doing what you were doing. It was more a series of short stories that have been brought together in an attempt to make a bigger story when to be honest none of them really gave anything to the overall plot. Although they were enjoyable for the most part in the late game the missions started to get a bit repetetive with just find so and so and kill them missions or some such similar thing.

The endgame in this is a lot better than in SOM. Although the "final" fight with sauron is definitely better than the QTE from SOM i still didnt find it challenging enough to be a final boss, the nazgul in minas ithil right at the begining of the game were more challenging and I died quite a few times but with sauron I killed him first time and it didnt feel very rewarding especially since I didnt get the proper ending. To get the proper ending I had to complete the Shadow Wars which involves a series of 10 stages in which you defend the fortresses in each region with more being attacked each stage. This was a bit of a slog and towards the end I started to get a bit bored of it but i was determined to get the proper ending. I got the proper ending but it was a very predictable ending for all the hard work i just put in but it was a good cutscene at least.

Ok. The biggest problem this game has in almost everyone elses opinions are the microtransactions. I dont see them as that big a deal since they are completely optional and you're not really pressured into buying them. I did buy a couple of war chests to see what difference it made and in my opinion it didnt make any noticeably huge difference it just gave me a few cool looking orcs. Ranks dont affect the game that much in my experince, to me its more of a rock, paper, scissors situation with certain traits being a lot more effective against others and levels giving orcs higher health but otherwise legendary orcs just get a few more traits which doesnt neccessarily make much difference at all.

Overall i'd say it was a decent game well worth the money with a ok storyline, decent loot system and a completely awesome nemesis system.

An absolutely amazing game with tons of replayability value. I'm gonna say right now that this game is messed up (you're chased around by sentient poo and what i am pretty sure is sperm) and the more pickups you.. um... pickup, the more hideous your character will become but the powerful effects you get from this are (almost) always worth it. As my friend once said "I have never loved and hated a game so much in my life"

Pros:
nice graphics
tons of interesting enemy types
challenging game play
lots of different characters to unlock
the fact that every room is random leaving you in constant fear of what may be in the next room

lots of important info is kept from you such as which door leads to what, what can damage you and things like that but i think that this can also add to the games replayability because you have to work out by trial and error(and lots of dying) what everything does.

THIS GAME IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

played the entire storyline over 2 days it's that addicting. The soldiers that you use arent just objects in this game, you actually become attached to them causing their deaths to hit hard especially if they've been in the game from day 1. I had 2 guys from mission 1 in the final mission (the other 2 had died from my first sectopod) and 1 of them had psychic powers meaning he was the volunteer making the ending even better. I would reccoend that everyone use a character they are actually attached to in the gollop chamber because it is worth it.

All round good game with nice graphics, great gameplay and just the right amount of base building and action

9/10

only problem being how stupid the aiming can be sometimes. point blank and still missing doesnt seem right somehow

this game really makes you think about what your going to do and is difficult enough to be challenging but not so hard that it isn't fun
