Early Access Review
After watching Dodger and Jesse Cox's sponsored livestream, this was an easy pick up for me. So far, it's a solid difficulty level with a good gameplay loop. Looking forward to see how they progress, as well as finding what more complicated late game builds will look like!

Early Access Review
Endless Castle Defense, exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for. A single player RTS, essentially, where the enemy is always advancing on you from outside the map, with a few enemy camps scattered across the map for you to loot. Many different difficulty settings on endless mode, although the difficulty ramp seems to bring even the easiest, non-peaceful map a little too intense too quickly imo. By wave 12, invasions were lasting multiple days. Which would probably mean that if you can last long enough and your PC can handle it, you'll eventually reach waves that just don't end due to new invasions starting before the previous one is cleared out. I would love to reach that point personally, but so far have been unable to, mostly due to player skill.

Only slightly buggy for an Early Access title; although the game for me ran very smooth until I'd reached 100+ in-game days, with the 15th wave creating massive armies coming from all sides. Sometimes workers get stuck for no apparent reason (farmers for example, being stuck on the farm with no walls or other buildings nearby.)

The 3 minute warning system for where invasions will be coming from is great. However, before dumping a decent amount of resources into walls/towers for a particular corner, it's better to spread them out at the beginning. An invasion marker is only an estimate, and committing too much to defending a single spot can see your town overrun by a file of enemies slightly off course from the where the marker had been.

The game is definitely not quite finished for long, endless games. I would very much like to see an expanded research tree, and a greatly improved market to help with increasing game length. If not for being locked to a single market where you can only trade 300 wood for 100 stone/50 iron per minute, I could easily see those endless invasions being reached. Or even being able to automate the market would be huge. As it stands, it either takes too many resources or too much time to have a base that takes up nearly a full map that's also well-defended.

The cartoony graphics are great for this, especially when getting smacked by catapults that launch everything around the impact into the air. The pace of the game is honestly fantastic and I've already lost several hours to "just one more wave."

There is also a campaign, but I honestly only did the first level. It did seem pretty fun, and at the very least the first level has a fun little story to it. I just have no interest in barely getting started before reaching a victory screen and having to begin again.

Aside from that, some things I would personally consider to be neat changes:

1) Enemy AI focusing on gates or openings rather than attacking whatever wall they run into. Otherwise gates and walls instead of just endless loaded towers feel useless.
2) Improved positioning. As it stands, whatever you have selected forms an automatic formation, which is great, but it can be very difficult to get them to face the direction you want; especially when selecting a group made up of a variety of troops.
3) Greatly increased/removal of Builder range. I can appreciate how worker ranges/targets work in this game, but I feel like Builders should not be affected by this limitation.
4) Maybe a research item, but would love to see Builder speeds increase, especially on walls/towers when the Invasion alert is active. Several times I would start building a Massive Tower when Invasion alerts activated, only to just barely have it build after the full 3 minutes.
5) Lower difficulty maps should scale in difficulty a little slower.
6) An option for renewable Gems through either drops from invaders or through the Market, or some other end-game building; some way to continue getting them once you dominate the map. As it stands, it honestly doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the more powerful you become, the less access you get to powerful abilities that the Gems control.
7) Maybe this is in the game already and I just haven't seen it, but somewhere to see your resource income; food/wood/etc. Currently only see how much food is being used per day; a way to see how much food you are making each day would be fantastic.
8) A button to select all un-assigned units. The maps are massive compared to the units, and if you lose some units somewhere after not assigning them to a group/putting them in a building; you might never find them again.
9) An option to have some control over world-gen. Increasing/decreasing resources, mountains, water, etc, would be pretty sweet in a game like this. Or even just a way to control the world gen seed (copy/paste), so that you can share great starts with other players.

All that aside, TL;DR: The game is a blast, well worth the money even in Early Access if you enjoy Castle Defense, or even casual RTS games. And the Diplomacy "option" is a great touch.

I'm sorry about uninstalling you. I was just purging my Steam library and you were caught in the crossfire.

That's why I brought you back. And you seemed to be understanding, with that clock in your peak and your inquisitive nature. With your first comment to me, "Where was I?" I realized that I can't make that mistake again.

You'll be allowed to run until there's no more mountains to make. No more clouds drifting by, no more omniscient beings tossing random items in your general direction, and you can no longer think of anything to say.

Thanks Mountain.

Also, it's cool to know that you can lose at Mountain.

Entertaining enough medieval survival game, but I cannot recommend it in Early Access. Not that you shouldn't be expecting bugs with "Alpha," but it's a bit too much of a headache in it's current build (Alpha 13.) Every time it crashes you have to verify integrity to reconnect to a server. And it will crash, the servers have a strong memory leak that puts Chrome to shame. Will change review if the game gets a full release that's in better shape.
