Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Video-Game) ★★★★☆

With CSGO being the 4th game in the Counter-Strike franchise the game had a lot to live up to following the lines of the original CS and CS: Source. To me it feels like Valve took every good quality from each of the previous games and somehow brought them into CSGO, and it worked CSGO is now classed as the #1 most competitive first person shooter ever made. It’s not the average washed down sequel that we see from games like Call of Duty or other unrealistic FPS games, CSGO was made to a unique standard that previous games had set really high and yet CSGO was able to come through and break that standard.

In CSGO’s main competitive game mode your main goal is to work as a team to either plant the C4 explosive bomb on one of 2 plant sites on the map or counter the enemy’s movements in their attempt to plant the bomb. The game mode is very interesting as after 15 rounds you switch sides then from there whoever gets to winning 16 rounds first wins. Both teams must work together and only the team with the best communication and best teamwork will win. This is the soul focus of CSGO’s competitive matchmaking and I feel it is what sets it apart from the generic ‘spray and pray’ first person shooter game.

The competitive scene for the game is certainly its strong point, forcing then player to adapt to weapons, maps, grenades and strategies. It is not the average first person shooter, it’s a strategy game more than a first person shooter, you can’t run around each map spraying down enemies and using pure aim skill, you must outsmart the enemies. This is an aspect that really makes the game fun and challenging and the reason why a lot of people love it.

CSGO’s competitive matchmaking uses the same ELO ranking system as chess which allows players to either rank up or de-rank, which means you will always stay in the skill tier that best suits you, which I feel is a very fair and a great way to gain skill and experience versing slightly better opponents.


Counter-Strike focus’ mainly on making the game as realistic as possible with controllable gun spray patterns, no accuracy while moving and shooting and a key feature is if you purchase Kevlar vest and head armour which impacts the damage you take and from where you take the damage. There is also different bullet penetration through almost every object which makes prefires and wallbang shots very interesting.

Although CSGO has no offline/campaign mode the Counter-Strike community provides you with hundreds and thousands of custom maps, game modes and weapon skins. Which will never leave you bored or tired of CSGO.

In conclusion Counter Strike has been of the most if not the most thrilling and diverse games I have ever played, with having played over 1000 hours of the game I still feel as if it’s only getting better and more competitive. The game has been fine tuned into the most competitive eSport played in the world. I rate the game 4/5 stars. The only thing that the game lacked for me was quality servers having only 64 tick servers and not having the option to have a knife or map deciding round in the warm up. Other than these, this game is close to perfect and lacks little to no competitive and gameplay features. Highly recommended to any FPS players.
