This game has no business being this good but it is. It feels familiar to 7 Days to Die and Project Zomboid gameplay and mechanically speaking, but also borrows a lot of inspiration from Half-Life 1 for it's theme and setting.

However, it manages to be it's own thing and REALLY well at that. This was a unique gem I was recommended to look at and in it's early access at this time of the review it gave me over 30 hours of fun content. The world and lore is nostalgic and interesting, the survival mechanics and base building are familiar, the RPG elements feel balanced and there's a fair amount of content to explore and experience.

Looking at the road map ahead the devs have quite a lot planned. It all looks quite good but the one thing I didn't see ( or notice at least ) was modding support. Players like to customize their experience and modding for a game like this seems like a no brainer.

Regardless, wonderful game in a highly intriguing setting with ample amounts of fun and play time in it's current state. Take a peek at the gameplay and trailers, if they even remotely interest you I say buy it. Get some friends, survive together and explore the mysteries of the GATE research facility, you (probably) won't regret it.

Pretty good game with a surprising amount of depth in terms of enemy design and mechanics. I was expecting a simple loot and scoot game for $10 but you get something with quite a bit of charm, humor, horror and solid gameplay for less than what your lunch cost today.

Would recommend, hope to see it get more updates and fleshed out further. As it currently stands now, my only real fault with the game is the infinite loading screen bug that can happen when trying to join lobbies. (FIXED) It could use some more diverse tile sets within the current levels and maybe a few more maps, but it's pretty solid so far as is.

TLDR - It's okay but nothing great. Standard and typical Bethesda product, which I think a lot of us weren't expecting for some reason. Todd fooled me pretty good. Wait for a sale, which will also give modders time to fix and improve the game.

My biggest gripe about this game isn't that it's pretty mid and shallow but the fact that we could of had TES 6 instead but they chose to develop this game, hyping it as some ground breaking new IP that would give them a fresh perspective and us, the players, something new.

The phrase wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle perfectly describes this game. The writing is pretty boring and there's been no real interesting or well written characters within 35 hours of game play either. The plot lines also reflect this so far as well. One of the side plots is the war between UC SysDef and the Crimson Fleet but honestly? The rewards are virtually the same no matter who you side with. That could be forgiven if there was any memorable characters on either side that would of pulled the player in and had them emotionally invested in one side of the other but personally, none of them are well written enough to care.

There's little backstory and what is there is uninspired and boring, no growth or anything to get you attached to the people involved it's like they just gave the characters the bare minimum writing needed to progress the story line as they guide you through one cinematic set piece and gun fight to the next, dangling that carrot on a stick until you get to the end and the reward is the same no matter what your choices are.

Aside from the terrible writing and forgettable characters (you know, the two HUGE things in rpg games) the gameplay is alright. It's standard Bethesda affair with a relatively diverse set of skills and trees to invest into. Gun play is alright enough to keep you entertained though the AI is pretty trash and often stands in place and doesn't really play smart. The lowliest bandit fights as well as the leader of the Crimson Fleet or UC SysDef commander and that's a shame.

Dungeons, mines and planets are pretty much copy pasted and rehashed, tweaked slightly then fed back to the player. It's just like everything else really, uninspired, feels a bit half-assed and overall mid af. The one thing they did do pretty well or at least IMO, was the ship building and dog fighting. It's goes pretty in-depth with ship design and the dog fighting reminds me of elite dangerous with being able to re-route power from certain systems (Like your shields, engines or grav-drive) and putting that power elsewhere to supercharge other systems as needed. All in all, pretty good and decently fun, gotta give it to them there.

Overall, the game isn't bad, but it's not that great either. It's not a complex RPG, the action and gameplay are mid, the writing and characters are boring and lack any depth and we could of had TES 6 instead lmaooo. There's much better RPGs out currently and it's hard to recommend this game if you have to pick one of them.

• Good formula, bad execution. Worth buying if you're a die-hard fan, otherwise wait a couple months / year for it to get polished up.

I have over 700 hours in both Vermintide games and have played them extensively.

In true Fatshark design the launch is pretty atrocious. Crafting missing from the game and coming Soon™, they didn't forget to include the premium cash shop though. Performance is pretty ♥♥♥♥ unless you have a great PC. Don't bother trying to turn RTX on, with a 5900x, 32gb RAM, 3080ti my FPS will tank down to the 30s with *any* amount of RTX turned on.

•Horrid game balance. The veteran is so blatantly overpowered right now it nullifies any other class in the game. It's also the only class except for the Ogryn that seems immune to nerfs. Why is the ranged specialist also the best melee character in the game with the best melee weapon? Guess the Zealot can get bent.
Why is the ranged specialist the best special killer? Psyker can also get bent. The only thing the Veteran doesn't do better than the other classes is tanking and crowd control. Ideally the best team would just be 3 Veteran's and 1 Ogyrn if you wanted to min-max. Fatshark has always had terrible balance in their Vermintide games but it was at least remedied by the fact that each character generally had an OP subclass, but there's no subclasses in this game(yet?)

• There's a lot of technical issues right now. Disconnects, crashing and bugs.

• Also this is a little personal problem I have but they removed the Scoreboard because of toxicity in their older games? Bro we're literally playing a game where we're hacking people's limbs and heads off, taking place in a universe that is highly racist, xenophobic, anti human-rights and full of radical extremism, playing for a faction basically akin to Nazis but we're worried that someone might have a higher kill count than another player? okay lol

As a long time player of the Vermintide games and going through their launches, their development and refinement into what they are now, this is pretty standard fare for Fatshark. Take zero feedback from the years of the previous game, develop new game, release game, it's a buggy mess of brokeness and then slowly patch and refine it over the years into a solid co-op hack and slash.

It sucks because the game at it's core is great, but seeing the same problems and issues repeated game after game after game is getting old.

FYI - I only play survival and haven't tried the campaign so take that going forward from here.

This game has always been particularly special to me. It's challenging in all the good ways without artificial difficulty or otherwise BS mechanics. Chances are if you die, you know full well the risk you took. Walking out on ice, traversing common wolf hunting grounds or getting too close to a bear's den, not packing enough food or clothing, or just plain not being prepared and adequately equipped in your trek.

It's cathartic and peaceful in a way that not many games can capture. Between the wonderful sound design to the melancholic sight of long abandoned and destroyed villages, towns, and what otherwise was once a hustling and bustling human civilization, the crippling solitude and bleakness of survival is captured so beautifully in every area of this game and I love it. You are absolutely alone and faced with endless odds where everything can kill you, with no help coming, figure it out and survive if you can and that's a wonderful thing.

There's no morally grey or edgy dilemmas you face in this game like a lot of survival games try to capture and fixate on as a focal point of their design. It's just the raw and unforgiving aspect of survival against nature. The unrelenting cold, the wild predators that lurk about, how creative you can get with the tools and resources you're given, how well you can plan and how much of a risk you're willing to take for the reward you seek.

Cook your food, melt your snow, keep your tools sharp, stay warm, watch your back and always be prepared for the unexpected. You are alone and you're reminded of it every single harsh step of the way.

Redemption is the word that best describes this game.

Initially the devs outright lied to players to what's actually in the game on launch, to false advertisement in promotion videos and sketchy claims of game mechanics, which turned into a downward spiral of controversy, hate and even lawsuits. But, what happened next over the next couple years is nothing short of commitment to their players and following through on the original promise, like a quittance from their earlier lies, false promises and offenses.

No Man's Sky really turned into something special. False promises made right, mechanics expanded on, refined and implemented in such a way to really transform what the game originally launched as. I could (and do) get lost for hours in this game having fun and exploring. Setting goals and creating my own path and progression in what I find fun. Become a merchant, explorer, settler, colonizer, create production plants, become bounty hunter, invest in guilds, follow the main story which has diverging paths that lead to different endings and goals, or hop online and share all this with other players.

There's a whole lot to do and none of it is really forced on you. You pick your own way and you carve your own path through the infinite galaxies doing whatever you enjoy. It's still addicting and fun 143 hours later for me and I've not even touched most of the systems in place or even pursued the main story line. I still love the exploration aspect of seeing new planets, staring at awe at their vast beauty (or destructive chaos) as I go about my own business of charting galaxies and amassing riches.

I'm still finding events, planets, ships and content that I've never seen before or had any idea it existed each time I play and it's incredibly fun. This game isn't GOTY or the best in it's genre, but what it offers is damn good and made even better having been here all these years, seeing the game pre-launch, post-launch drama, and the development that followed until this current day? It's come so far and has really redeemed itself.

Not a bad game but it feels rushed and is lacking content from the original in the form of game modes and areas that have been cut entirely among other things and the general Resident Evil feel that RE2R captured so beautifully is missing here.

Fun enough game but wait for a sale.

The only thing this game is missing is bloody palace but otherwise it's a true and great sequel to DMC4, and is roughly on par with it and DMC3.

edit: they added bloody palace so now it's game of the year all years

also they added vergi- IMMORAL TEMPTATIONTAKES OVER MY MINDCONDEMNED
