First, let's clear up all the negative stuff.
-this charming JRPG has been ported from PC -> PS Vita -> Steam, so the game has several issues compared to the original PC release. from what I've experienced, controls feel clunkier than usual, and the updated UI and animations don't really mesh well with the original pixelated sprites the game used (I prefer the original UI by a LOT).
-the English translations were done by (I believe) a single person, and as much of a good job as this person did (mad props to him), it's nowhere near perfect.
-the game feels easier compared to the original PC release (Weekend version), even on the hardest difficulty (this might be a positive, depending on how you view it).
-one of the most useful QoL improvement this game used to have, the minimap, is absent.

With all that said, allow me to clarify that this game has the BEST turn-based RPG system I have ever experienced in my entire life. A difficult, yet incredibly fun gameplay any RPG fan can enjoy, even folks who are not familiar with the Touhou series. No chugging potions and overleveling your characters, every stage you push through has to be solved by your own creativity as a player.

+an extremely fun, intuitive, yet complex party building. from each one of 15+ characters offering an entirely unique arsenal of tools and abilities, myriads of equipment with broad to specialized effects, unique character growth trees you can reset at any moment, to different party formations and commander effects.
+complex combat system with multiple elements, magical and physical strengths and weaknesses, barriers, blocks, buffs, debuffs, status effects, priorities, and more.
+challenging enemy encounters starting from as early as the 2nd stage up until the very endgame, even the random encounters you meet in a normal stage can sometimes be as tough as tackling the final boss.
+extremely rich with content, you can easily spend 100+ hours just to clear the main story, and hundreds more in the post-game.
+for completionists, this game has lots of collectibles in the form of bestiaries, item chests, drops, formations, crafting, and even learnable enemy abilities (one of your characters will have the ability to permanently learn and use most of enemy abilities thrown at her).
+while the game itself is difficult, it is never punishing. you get to keep all progress on party wipes, so feel free to grind, craft, and formulate new builds and strategies to try and tackle the stage/boss again.

While this game doesn't really offer much in terms of story, if you are a fan of classic turn-based RPG combat, then I definitely recommend you give this wonderful gem a try. Personally speaking, no other turn-based RPGs I've played have ever come close to match the one-of-a-kind experience of playing (and replaying) this game.

The developers also deserve a mention for the tremendous amount of care they've shown for this game. from publishing free additional post-game contents, to creating a console port, Steam port, and even English translation. Here's hoping they will continue to do so for their other JRPG titles, and all future titles to come!

Very fun combat mechanic, expressive character builds through gear and skill/blessing choice, caters to both PvE and PvP players

Devs willingly used this game for their political agenda, showing that they care more about their political views than the fans, community, and player-base. Not a developer you'd want to support.
