It is possible to remove undesirable assets from the HLA Workshop Addon.
You just need to extract the addon's contents (I use GCFScape),
move them to your hl2/custom folder,
and erase undesirable files.

You won't be able to make use of the load order feature, though.
Mods in your hl2/custom folder always load on game start, and are overwritten by any Workshop Addons you have enabled.
