A very good story-driven RPG that is only held back by a not so tactical combat system.

The story itself is excellent, the characters are extremely likeable and all have some sort of unique story they go through as the game progresses. The main character Cicero also has a lot of backstory you can pick up by reading the in game codex entries, which are very well written and not a pain at all to collect. The OST is incredible, it always was adding to whatever scene was happening in game. The art is also amazing, it's a very distinct look that works very well for this type of game.

My only gripe with this game comes from the combat, and how it can be a little clumsy at times to wield. Combat in this game can be played in either a tactial pause mode, or a real time action mode. On the easier difficulties, you rarely need to use tactical mode unless you really want to, but on hard you do not have that luxury. Unfortunately, the AI for your partners is not the best, and they have a habit of doing things that get them killed. The devs know this however and are working on some balancing patches, as well as adding a New Game+ mode.

Aside from a slightly clumsy combat system, this game is one of the best narritive experiences I've played in years, and I hope they have more in store for us in the future.

P.S. Please go easier on Kalden next time devs :(

Don't be fooled like I was by the Steam banner: this game is not some sort of pandering or lewd-fest. Rather, it is a series of 3 short story-driven games that take around an hour to complete each if you take your time to complete them. The combat in the game may be uneventful, but it's only meant as a means to advance the story, one that was surprisingly compelling I might add. I'm not usually one drawn to these sorts of games, but LiEat might just change my opinion on the matter. Definitely recommend to people looking for a good short story.

Early Access Review
Has super kawaii slimes: CHECK
Relaxing and calm soundtrack and atmosphere: CHECK
Can force feed poop to slimes: CHECK
Easy to pick up and play: CHECK

This game may be early access but I can tell this is one of the best investments I've made in my entire life, this game has so much potential to be good, and the developers seem to be on top of things with a lot of features already panned out.

I'm not usually one for reviews, but I feel that this game is one of the few that needs a review, since it is just so darn good.

Sunless Sea has been described as an FTL but with ships rogue-like. While I understand why they drew those conclusions, I don't feel they are entirely accurate as to what exactly the game is. First things first, this game starts off very, very slow. But, that is the intention, as it eases you into the game, and lets you delve into the game's greatest strength: it's story-telling and atmosphere. There is a lot of text in this game, and I do mean A LOT. If you don't like reading walls of text, this game is not for you.

You will die, quite frequently to begin with I'm sure, as you learn the correct routes and trades that you can do to get some early game profit. For me though, even repeating the same few things at the beginning of a new legacy does not bore me, as there are so many chance encounters than no two playthroughs feel quite the same.

Sunless Sea, to me, is a fantastic game, especially if you are into atmospheric storytelling and slower paced gameplay.

EDIT: Spelling is hard.

I completely forgot to mention that although you will die quite frequently, you can choose what you want to carry onto the next heir, and also unlock things as you play the game that give more passive bonuses to the next heir. All the more reason to explore and not fear the Unterzee!
