Dog-inspired. Dog-adjacent, even. "Dog", in even bigger quotation marks.
It kind of defies explanation. There's no logic to why it works so well.

So, instead of a "proper" review, allow me to list the best descriptions I can give:

Incredibly fun to draw.
You'll be saying "why" a lot, but with a chuckle and a silly goofy grin on your face every time.
Definitely very wobbly.
Deceptively simple! If you dug into the background mechanics you'd end up with a spreadsheet of genetics info. Maybe two or three people have actually done this.
"WHERE DID THE TAIL COME FROM"
"this is my son trashbag :] he is so short he clips into himself a lot, so please take extra special care when raising him!"

Started this game YEARS before the pandemic on a tablet device, and lemme tell you it picked up interest for a lot more reason than "haha covid".

Incredibly indepth mechanics, receptive and clear-to-understand visuals and options. Easy to get into, hard to perfect, lots of room for different strategies and approaches. Achievements for decades (please help me, there's no way I can 100% this one). Workshop and custom "level" (it kind of defies that title?) support. Multi-device.

An impressive little thing.

It's very much one of a kind - it's a dice...builder? RNG is inherently built into the idea, but you're given a lot of space to play it safe and mitigate it, or go all out and play into 1% chances.
It's slightly addictive, and the features are very well thought out. Nothing is broken levels of overpowered, your score at the end usually feels pretty fair, and better strategy naturally yields better results.

Just a note - very much intended to be one of those games you boot up to kill a few minutes. You'll find yourself playing two or three runs per session. For its price point, that's not really a bad thing? I feel like I got way more than my money's worth, at least, and I don't even have two full hours logged.

Early Access Review
Update: it's only better with Act 5, which has reduced me to little softie tears.

Every single inch of this project is overflowing with care. Comedic, solemn and bittersweet stories, with the potential to give you both Beans.. and very real, heartfelt and well-executed tales of oft serious topics.
Artstyle is charming and memorable, with fantastic, perfectly polished effects which work even on a potato computer. I've seen games six times the price with six times LESS quality.

Difficulty and tailoring to your own reaction time fully accessible via settings. New to rhythm? Difficulty switch. Average rhythm-er? Try out any levels. Nigh insatiable in your quest for difficulty? XN-1, 5-X or the MuseDash levels on hardest settings. Reaction time off, streaming to TV or otherwise potato computer? Game opens with latency settings to accommodate.

Level editor with full workshop support already, huge array of possibilities and Check out Milky Ways and one of the Aleph-0 levels for a good example. If the hardest levels and settings are a cake walk, go play a 2P level with both hands.

(minor mechanic spoiler)
Don't freak out if it shrinks your window, because it's the only game I own that moves the window around. It's smooth, well thought out and applied in sparing amounts at perfect moments, and combined with the story it brings the whole experience above and beyond. The options allow you to change this to a simulation, remove it or (should you have any) even let it go across all your monitors. And guess what the editor lets you play around with!

I feel very strongly that I underpaid for this masterpiece, and more just keeps coming.

Early Access Review
[! TEXT WALL !]

the short: ive cried like 6 times so far make of that what you will

actual review:
monomi park have upped their atmosphere game tenfold - and that's saying something, since SR1 was my comfort game. to start, the soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece: if anything in SR1 made you cry, expect to absolutely sob at the beauty of SR2. a wonderful balance of old, new and improved mechanics and slimes, all your old friends helping you out, and the promise of some REALLY interesting lore - the kind that keeps one hyped and speculating from the beginning. let me tell you, that unlock changed the game for me. brilliant way of implementing it.
also the map is massive? i feel like i've paid less than enough for the content so far, and more's still coming.

i upgraded my laptop between sessions of this game. even potato quality settings looked absolutely phenomenal (mildly more crashing, but still very pretty).

also, this is the most polished early-access game i've ever played or seen. idk what level of perfectionist the devs are on, but i've fallen through at MOST five walls, and they even made sure to put an invisible wall around the Secret Unfinished Spoiler Zone (i just had to. high place, climbing surfaces, you gotta.)

also, if the devs ever see this: thank you for the Ruins piano mix on the house menu radio. it brings me to tears every single time. the ruins, especially its opening puzzle area, have always been my favourite location and tracks in the first game, and i'm so glad to hear it's followed me here too.

Look at my hours, I am somehow still BARELY in the green in game, and have only within the last 10 hours gotten Jets, and only by paying $60 for a Phantom, the economy is crumbling, and Gaijin doesn't see it's community as people, just wallets to shake money out of using Golden Eagles and Premium vehicles

reviewing anything more than tModLoader itself would just be reviewing the mods on it, which kinda..... isn't the point

it installs cleanly, runs calamity on an abysmal-specs laptop, has a really easy-to-understand interface and rarely crashes on its own. takes a bit long to load, but so does the base game, so -shrug-.

This game. ...this game. Oh, good hecking whatever's-out-there, this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

This game took my anxious little heart, broke it in two, tore it into shreds, dragged my soul out from within me and mercilessly beat it senseless.

But it's the most beautiful thing I have ever played. Detail absolutely beyond comparison, the ability to weave a tale so grand and out of expectations that it had me laughing out loud, crying inconsolably and wanting to share as much as possible. Characters you can't get out of your head, the pit within you sticking until you continue the next day - all of it.

Do not - and I repeat, do not - spoil yourself. This story is one you can't have spoiled. It hit me out of nowhere and turned into the eighth dimension. Make saves everywhere, do everything, live your best life in it.

Even if you play it just once (which I think will be me, for at least a few years), just take the dive and do it. This story will (mostly positively, mostly!) be with you for a very, very long time.

..bonus points if you struggle with anything in the warnings. Empathy probably made this three hundred times harsher on me.

Works great for both modders and lonely fricks alike, just be wary what you post, a lot of companies have copyclaimed games, for warhammer stuff you need an archive

A nice simple and easy way to get into Yu-Gi-Oh before going somewhere like YGOPRO but the AI are not good at the game at all, usually having very weak cards and not having any fusion or syncro cards
