Game is cool, I love killing bugs.
Every gun needs a buff.

05/05/24 Edit: This should have never happened.

06/16/24 Edit: Guns have been buffed. I love killing bugs and bots. The game feels like it's in a good place, now. Do not buy warbonds right away.

It's the most okayest hunting sim. Honestly RDR2 is a better hunting sim. This game features:

* No horses. You do get to use 4-wheelers but they're too loud and scare everything half to death within a quarter mile radius of you.
* Limit of like 8-10 animals to hunt per map
* Fudd Euro devs who view hunting differently than Americans
* SAR missions that lead you to finding... nobody? There is no other visible NPCs in this game. Not sure if this was a purposeful choice but it was one of the first things I noticed. Feels uncanny and kinda unsettling to know you're actually alone in the wilderness.
* Very limited semi-automatic firearm selection. Really really meh selection of firearms overall.
* way too many DLCs
* Traditional Hungarian Recurve Bows... for horse archers???
* Poo. Everywhere. The animals don't stop pooping. They poop so much that it's extremely difficult to gauge just where they may be. There's so much poop. And the "freshness" of the scat deteriorates very quickly. I understand deer poo kinda frequently, but bears??? Pooping every 5-10 minutes??? Are you sure?
* Barely any birds. Seriously. In one reserve there might be wild turkey. In another, maybe two species of duck. Nothing else. No pheasant, no ducks in the Rockies, no, no, no. I don't get it.
* Really really really nice shotguns. This is probably my favorite part of this game. Shotgun spread is very realistic. Shotguns are probably your best friend in this game.
* Not enough guns to pick from. It's really weird; and Handgun selection is the actual worst. I carry a 10mm autoloader for a reason. I'm not hunting with a side arm, I'm protecting myself with one. This oversight again is a clear indication of cultural differences between US and EU hunters.

Overall really meh. Kinda comfy, and a nice diversion. But really, really, meh.

It's a nice historical RPG and very realistic in terms of gameplay; but the combat system is god awful when it comes to 1vX. When fighting multiple opponents (1v'X') the target switching mechanic is unreliable at best and often times just doesn't work at all. It's extremely difficult -- even at high levels late game (where Henry's experience as a soldier may meet or surpass ones experience as a player) -- to switch opponents and keep them on their toes so one might fight multiple enemies well. It's usually in the player's best interest to listen to the in game advice early on and shoot enemies before engaging in a 1vX to give yourself better odds; as usually you will end up getting ganked otherwise. This applies even if you (player) are experienced in the melee slasher genre. In 1v1 fights, the combat system does shine excellently, however. But 2/3 of player fights will be a 1vX scenario with no good way to fight it through other than the scripted (but still adequately challenging) riposte system which can be learned. While the riposte system does offer an adequate means of 1vXing, it is very rinse and repeat, especially if you specialize in a specific weapon (as a peasant-turned-squire might) and once mastered gets very repetitive and boring. The rinse and repeat nature leads me to believe it may actually be a silent acknowledgement of the combat system's failures in 1vX fights.

While I really wish I could give this game a glowing review; I can't do it when the mechanics actually hinder gameplay for significant parts of the game. And while it is possible to have a pacifist playthrough: that is not how I want to play the game. I find the fact that 4 armed peasants can gank a fully armored knight(?) because the game makes it very hard and unnatural to switch targets to be disappointing and borderline unacceptable.

As of 12/1/2020 I have racked up 118 hours. Microsoft and Asobo have fixed pretty much all the teething issues by now. I still have a very bad taste in my mouth regarding the release procedures, but that is what it is. The simulator is very good in its current state, but could still use some polish regarding flight models. Mods are already abundant and the community for this sim will keep it alive for the next decade.

At this point in the game, Mordhau's founding playerbase has progressed way too far up the skill curve for most new players to have any sort of fun or render any meaningful experience from this game. If you are reading this, consider that most of the founding players have over 100hrs playing constantly, consistently, and are very good at this game. If you are going to take anything away from this review; this should be it. If you aren't competitive to the point where you will commit to losing time and time again to gain experience, play something else. This game is not for you.

I play Mordhau casually and I've found my experience isn't what it was a year ago. Frontlines servers are riddled with players who will relentlessly dominate a new player, and for someone like myself who plays casually; it can be defeating. The very noticable gap in skill has made all the friends I've introduced to the game uninstall and quit. If you're extremely competitive; you can catch up to the skill curve, but it will take time and a lot of frustrating deaths,

DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU DON'T USE A MIC

Ground Branch is basically an ultra-tactical SWAT 4 brought up to modern specs. Everything can be customized. Settings are very in-depth, so if you like to have a certain setup with keybinds, the game easily accommodates to that playstyle. For instance, I like to have Local VOIP set to M4 and Fire Selector set to M5. Standard, right? But I found that the light on the red dots was too bright. Over time found where I like to keep it generally, and in the settings set that to the default brightness. That was very handy.

Moreover on the gameplay side of things; there is no HUD outside of a UI for what gear you're selecting. If you aren't using a mic, there is a very good chance you will inevitably get fragged by a fellow team mate. You NEED to communicate in this game. If you think you can casually stroll around and shoot AI like it's Ins:Sandstorm; you're gonna have a bad time.

Overall: After a few hours in this, I really like the game. There is a decently sized community and the game is only going to get bigger once some popular youtuber does a letsplay. Worth the buy, so long as you can get some team mates who know how to communicate effectively.

My reaction to this game sounds like a Gachi video. I'm moaning a barrage of "♥♥♥♥ yeahs", "oh yeahs", "no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ways", and "that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesomes" in total ecstasy while diving, sliding, and slo-mo'ing through maps shooting an array of classic miami vice guns. At the time of writing i'm still nursing a half chub and for a measly $14.88 you, too, can own this masterpiece.

I've always wanted a Civil War FPS and this game is pretty much everything I wanted. As of early access, I only have a few complaints:
-Ammo switching is very clunky and could use improvement
-Spawning in without your weapon loaded is annoying
-Melee is pretty clunky
-No usable artillery (yet)
-Sergeant cannot leave spawn without soldiers in his formation (that's really annoying)
-No way to distinguish voice of Sergeant from rest of players. This wouldn't be a huge deal irl but for a video game it's kinda hard to tell who's talking.
None of those are game breaking. But I did find that alt-tabbing would pretty much brick my computer until I restarted it, and I had the game freeze on me once which also required a restart. This is early access, however, so I wouldn't read too much into it, because these are things that can easily be fixed.

Definitely a step up from the RO2 and RS Predecessors. Gunfights are very visceral, with assault rifles ruling the battlefield and machineguns tearing down enemy advances. Shotguns blow off limbs and the ammunition choices for them are impressive in the way that they make the shotgun realistically versatile. Suppression and FA fire work like it should, making the game just that much more enjoyable albeit stressful. The maps are sparce as of the moment, with only 6ish choices between a very short-ranged CQB battle in a firebase, a skirmish in Hue, and several wide-open battles where combat comes from almost every direction in maps like An Lao Valley and Song Be. My only complaints are with Chu Chi; a map where the outcome directly lies in the competency of the leadership on both sides. The map is massive, and because of this whoever has more coherent leadership will win as spawning is miserable without a SL's well-placed spawn and the attrition is gruelling without good support from commanders.

Gameplay wise, it's missing the signature "stationary zoom" from RO2/RS that made me like it so much, and really helped with long-range engagements, instead replacing it with a "hold breath" feature like every other faceless shooter out there. The "folding stock/collapsing stock" option is also confusing, because it doesn't give GIs an advantage in tunnels and its use in CQB is at best situational. M16s dinky 18 round magazines are also a massive complaint in this game, and until it's addressed 8/10 times its better to just grab an M14 and forego the under-powered M16 until 30rnd mags make an entrance into the game.

As of the moment, I'd rate RS2 a solid 7.8/10 with room for improvement, but a solid game overall that shows a lot more promise than most games in the genre.

Current review; When I tried playing this I couldn't get it to run over 5fps, the tutorial was unplayable, and I'm still confused as to why. I can run ArmA 3 with visual mods, I can play games like Insurgency just fine, I can run Warthunder on max settings with 50fps, but for some reason this would not run for me. I'm willing to give the game another shot, but I'm sincerely disappointed by the performance (or lack thereof) that I had seen when trying to get this to play.
