A game that allows you to down a news chopper by yeeting an SUV at it whilst Demons fall from the sky and 8 story tall monsters hump buildings is A-OK in my books.

Ah Dawn of War III. A sad story, and a game that I think gets far to much vitrol than it really deserves.

The game as a standalone is technically fine. A very MOBA-esque 40k game, the only real complaints I have against the game itself is the lack of factions, lore-bending and campaign layout (and every thing with a MOBA such as no cover system). The graphics are far less gritty than DoW2, but that's been replaced with an approach that wants to cater towards the clean look that you commonly get on tabletop so whether this is a negative is entirely subjective.

The REAL problem comes with its name. This is simply not a Dawn of War game. I struggle to even really accept this as a 40k game with the amount of lore breaking they do to prop up poor ability ideas. All of the strides that DoW2 took have been completely ripped out and replaced with the aformentioned MOBA set up. There are no longer support abilities the same as DoW2, there's no cover system bar this painful "bubble" mechanic that they have, 0 sync kills and a minimal amount of content in general. There's no tactical thinking involved in a normal match aside from point-click. Firing arcs are gone, suppression is gone, retreating is gone, everything is just... gone. It's a complete shell of a game when compared to the previous DoW titles, and should rightfully be boycotted and lambasted for this.

However, I maintain a view that if this was marketted as a 40k MOBA game in a new franchise, NOT as a DoW game, it would have performed better than what it did. In itself, it's a poor game compared to many others, but an acknowledgement of what this game actually is combined with avoiding taking a collosal ♥♥♥♥ on a loved franchise would have lent this game towards more favourable reviews, and it would likely still be supported and played by all who could park the fact that it would be a MOBA.

There's no real reason to buy this game. It's NOT a Dawn of War game, it's a poor MOBA and the Dev's response to this was to just abandon it. The worst thing to come out of this is that DoW is now effectively dead, unless the developers can heave the blame of this failure onto their poor marketting, community management and disregard for the lore of one of the most rich franchises ever made.

Warhammer II, in short, can be seen as a very positive extension of Warhammer I.

There are many improvements over the first installment, with absolutely stunning scenery, expanded campaign mechanics, actual victory conditions that the AI can reasonably achieve, more streamlined character and faction stories and a vastly improved array of factions and units.

On top of all of this, Warhammer II is somehow far more optimized than Warhammer I, allowing for higher graphical settings to run at less of a cost to RAM and graphical capacity resulting in much smoother campaign and battle experiences with a far greater number of troops on the field.

The only cons i've found thus far are scenery issues (trees going through buildings, floating props e.c.t.) albeit this is a rarity, clipping and pathfinding issues regarding said trees (units can run right through massive great leafy obstacles), and a slight inbalance of High Elf melee troops in the early-mid game (no reasonably priced sword unit, ♥♥♥♥♥ for online play).
I'm sure these will be patched relatively quickly though, as CA showed with their handling of imbalances in Warhammer I.

Bar these few points, the game is fantastic thus far, far greater and more fleshed out than the first installment, and I look forward to seeing what CA brings us on the FreeLC and DLC front soon.

In short, 10/10, would murder ♥♥♥♥ Dark Elves with an Eagle Bolt line again.

Saying its like Left 4 Dead is an understatement. Mechanics are alot smoother, scenery is stunning and the dialouge is top notch. Only downside is that you have to have a constant internet connection as it uses a virtual server to save new items you aquire in and after missions.

Over all the entire package is 9/10, would be 10/10 if you could play reliably offline with full features.
