This is a deeply flawed game with many highpoints. I would recommend it if your a die hard rpg fan and want to explore a very beautiful medieval world but for about everything else it becomes a frustrating mess.

The combat is a great tactical affair, when it works, and only in one on one combat. In a melee of more than two it become a mess of trying to lock on to the right target and getting bounced about like some kind of plate armoured ping pong ball.

The story is also a mess, with plot points being predictable and characters one dimensional cardboard cutouts of medieval tropes. You've got your snobby noble, your greedy noble, your well intentioned noble, your tired old soldier. The story doesn't take any risks and the ending leaves you wanting so much more. The ending is one of the worsts parts as it feels like they still have half a game left!

Then there is the saving system which tries to emulate realism just turns the game into a frustrating mess when you lose 3 hours of progress to a bug where you get stuck in a bush and are stabbed to death.

There are high points though, managing to successfully train your way with a sword from peasant to weapon master is immensely satisfying and there are 1 or 2 great quests that leave an impression (always agree to drinking with a priest). But these high points stick out from a miasm of mediocrity and flaws that leave me struggling to recommend it.

It well worth the asking price and if you enjoy games with a good story, solid gameplay, beautiful art and music and an amazing cast you cant go wrong with Pyre. Easily best game of 2017 so far for me.

Early Access Review
A really fun and exciting dogfighter. It's got creative weapons and imaginative planes which coupled with the fantastic maps it's definitely worth buying even in early access. The only problem is that you will need to get good at flying before you can fully appreciate all the intricate little nooks and crannies of the maps
