TL:DR - Game is great, 2K update to the game made it worse with no upside.

The game is great, don't think I'm thumbing it down.

2K is the one I'm thumbing down, because they gave us a "Quality of life" update, which did one thing as far as I can tell, and this is Force us to use their game browser to start the game. While this hasn't seemed like a big deal, I've had random game crashes, even one that made the browser unrespossive. Attempting to close the browser after the crash practically crashed my own PC.

Yes. I'd love to suggest players get in on this game I've spent many hours on, but currently I cannot recommend it. Simple reason is the hackers that Valve is doing nothing about. If they ever decide to take care of the situation and restore this game, then I'll change my vote.

Edit: They've put out 2 updates that seem to have reduced the rate that hackers are seen, so my review has changed from Negative to Positive.

Edit: 6/7/24. Looks like it's time to change my recommendation of this game back from "Yes" to "No". Used to be able to boot this up for a good hour or two with a friend, but for the past year or two, it is unplayable. I have at that moment 5,000+ hours, so am I done playing? Did I do everything I wanted? Nah. This game has a charm with the goofy graphics, voice acting, and game play. But we can't play in a world of bots that prevent old and new players from being along side one another. So Valve, how about you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do something.

Edit: 7/11/24 - They actually banned an absurd amount of bots and bot hosters from TF2. I can once again play this game without bots ruining things. Vote has changed back to recommending the game.

Even on my 2nd play through, the library section still got under my skin.

I liked Fallout 3.
I liked Fallout 4.
I even liked Fallout New Vegas. After all, I did complete of all its achievements.

It's like a mix of The Sims (character creation and choices of story) and an RPG/first person. For me, it is perfect.

If you do play SOMA, it's best to keep a strong open mind about everything. Don't go in expecting a game more frightning than Amnesia, go in paying attention to the story and asking yourself questions.

Edit - I nominated this in 2017 for the "Haunts My Dreams" award, because the "what if" and "could have" still cross my mind.

I used to enjoy this game and recommend it, but I think it's time I take that back.

Without going into a long drawn out reason let's just put out a few simple reasons.

1. Pay to win/money grinding.

2. The amount of hackers, jesus.. "JUST PLAY WITH FRIENDS OR SOLO" and defeat the purpose of the game being played with other people I don't know, maybe make a friend? lol

3. The weapons and weaponized vehicles added during the Gunrunning update and later ruined the game. "MAYBE YOU'RE JUST BAD!" What a classy come back.

4. When I started playing back in 2015 it was easy to fill a lobby with players to race against. These days you can only expect a full lobby from double money events, or a fan base following. This could be a combination of player base being smaller, and/or the number of game modes added is too high to get a decent size lobby going.

5. Explosive rounds and super accurate missiles. It's bad when you can't even drive a normal vehicle or plane without the risk of these easily taking you out with no effort.

6. Finally, Orbital Cannon. That's all.

The superior of the roller coaster tycoon series, and where it all began.

I cried. No not at the ending but before that, you know when... I can't spoil it but it was awful to see.
