If you are a fan of games such as Rocket League and enjoy FPS games (you don't specifically have to enjoy FPS games) I can recommend you giving this a try.

Before jumping into public games I recommend joining the discord of the game https://discord.com/invite/protoball you can find this link at the bottom of the main menu of the game. There is a Tutorials section that contains guides from experienced players in the game that will teach you things that the tutorial doesn't get to yet.

Doing the tutorial is also a recommendation but you could encounter a "bug" that isn't actually a bug.
It'll ask you to press the movement keys, just look around and go inside one of the portals because there is a chance you'll get sent back to the menu if you start moving around. This is because you spawn close to a portal that sends you back to the main menu. I am sure this will be fixed very soon.

The players currently playing this game are all in the discord and are willing to play with everyone to teach them the ropes of this game. Just as in other games similar to this there is a skill involved and you grow the more you play and practice. In every game that you start out at you need to learn the basics and grow from there.

As for the developers they are very active within the community. If you have any questions regarding the game they are willing to any questions you have and will gladly accept feedback. They understand that the player base wants to enjoy the game and talks to them to understand their needs. The developer team is a small team but they will come a far way with how they've been handling everything.

Currently there is no competitive mode yet but there are tournaments hosted by the developers so there is a competitive scene within the community already. This might scare newcomers because other players can outclass them in their first games. I experienced this myself but I decided to see how they played and learned from them.

If you find any bugs in the game there is a bugs section on the discord to report them and the developers will read and respond to them. I've found a few myself that have been fixed already in the past days I have been playing this game.

It's an early access game and a free one on top of that. If you compare this to Rocket League do know that Rocket League started off with a pricetag of €20 and recently got put out for free because Epic Games and Psyonix got a partnership. In the future this game can easily join the E-Sport scene so give it a try and see what you think of it.
