Early Access Review
Normally I don't leave reviews, it's never really been my thing. But this game has been such a nostalgia trip for me, I just had to leave one. As a kid, I've always had an affinity with model trains and would spend hours building different track layouts when I received my first Lionel set. This seriously brings back those memories as you're free to practically build however you want, plus you aren't as limited (specifically with how expensive train sets can get if you go all out).

The game sure has a learning curve. As of posting this, with only 9 hours playtime, I barely finished setting up a layout I liked by just connecting the sawmill/logging camp/freight depot and making my first go around. Controls are also definitely finicky, took me a while to figure out spline mode alone yet I'm quite content with circle mode. I'm looking forward to creating a full network and driving around the map to the other sites.

Now would I recommend this game? Sorta. It's definitely a good time waster, I personally enjoy it due to the nostalgia it gives me when I was a kid. But there still isn't a whole lot to it yet. You'll spend literal hours trying to get a decent track set up, load freight, unload freight for profit, rinse, repeat. It's pretty much grindy with no reward. You unlock more locomotives and cars as you progress, but it's pretty much the same cycle as you go. I have yet to play multiplayer, but it does seem like it would make things easier as pulling a long train can be quite difficult solo.

All that being said, I think it's a fantastic game. Time seems to fly when I'm playing, although I do tend to listen to Spotify in the background as the in-game music gets quite repetitive. I'm really looking forward to seeing what updates come out as time goes on!
