Early Access Review
A Refreshing Take on Farming Sims!

Fields of Mistria is currently early access but has a ton of content to go through! The team also have a roadmap leading up to the 1.0 release!

TL;DR Bulletpoints that I really like about this game

  • Robust town with characters that are memorable
  • Rewarding gameplay loop
  • Colorful and cute artstyle!

What initially caught my eye when the game released its early access on Steam was the gorgeous art style! It's very reminiscent of the classic 90s anime and I think that compliments to how colorful this world is.

I highly praise this game for the amount of unique interactions between characters! They have hangouts on Friday nights where some would go drinking together or have a dnd session! They all have their own lives and have their own friends! It's so cute!! The world building is honestly really neat with the characters and the magical setting.

There is plot! You as a player come to Mistria to help rebuild the town after a devastating earthquake happened. You help Adeline and her brother, Eiland rebuild the town together restoring public services! There is also a more mysterious plot-line when you deep dive in the mines that keeps it interesting as well.

The gameplay rewards you when meeting milestones in the plot of course! It's so natural how it all comes together. For example, as you restore the services in town, you'll be able to use them! Using the mills, purchasing more animals, and having more seeds to purchase are one of the few things you unlock as you progress restoring the town of Mistria.

As you delve deeper into the mines, you'll also unlock spells to use! This can allow you to for example, restore all of your HP and Stamina, or force rain to occur that day at the cost of using Mana. Mana restores fully every few days or so to prevent this from being too overpowered.

Overall, I like what the game currently offers and is looking promising for the future! I'll add more as the game progresses! Definitely check it out!

As this game is early access, there are obviously things that can be improved and be better. Which is why players can submit feedback for gameplay suggestions and bug reports on their website![www.fieldsofmistria.com]

As of this post, the game is on version 0.11.4.

  • Time should be a slower, it's too fast for my liking to be fully okay getting through things. As of right now, not making it to bed by 2AM only subtracts time for the next day.
  • Allow the option to hover over the NPC icons on the map to see their names! It's sometimes hard to tell who is who at times and I end up wasting my time running to the wrong person.
  • Fishing takes too long to level up! This also adds to how fast time moves as well due to how long it can take to get one catch!
  • Allow placing chests in the mines! Because of how fast time moves, it becomes extremely difficult managing inventory without wasting 4 hours of the day.
  • Paths should be cheaper to craft.
  • As much as I love the characters, a lot of them are a little too cheery. I think March being so beloved is due to how mean he can be at the beginning. Earning the trust from him is rewarding.
  • Magic should get its own skill tree as the game is further developed!
  • There should also be teleportation points to unlock! The map is very big and does not help contribute to the time problem.
  • Looking up the food recipes should list the ingredients needed without having to get to the kitchen, same goes for crafting
  • Allow us to participate in some of the Friday night events! Like have an NPC inviting us prior to the Friday Inn hangout, they look like they're having so much fun! I get FOMO whenever I visit.
  • Archerfish should be more common please!! It took so long for me to find one in order to move on in the mines! It was so frustrating trying to go through a whole season without finding one!

Game runs great on Steam Deck!

For best battery life on Steam Deck OLED, these are my settings. It'll bring 6 hours from full charge:
- TDP set to 11
- Medium Settings
- Locked to 30FPS

I didn't expect to enjoy this game as much as I did. Bloodstained's controls are solid and the exploration of this world is incredibly rewarding. Combat is satisfying! The art style is left to be desired but I can tolerate it. Game is very well optimized on Steam Deck, I was able to achieve 90FPS on my OLED model just tinkering with the games settings.

As of this review, the game runs well on Steam Deck at a stable 30fps at the beginning of the game. However, as your garden grows to mid/late game, performance will chug down to 20fps and dips below that. Recommend bumping the resolution down below 720p with FSR to achieve semi-stable sub 25fps. This can be a deal-breaker if you're considering it, this is just a heads up.

Overall, I am enjoying this game. It nails a great balance of the harsh environments to survive and the coziness of designing your garden that is hard to put down. I'm almost near the end of the story, but the mystery has been compelling enough for me to keep playing and exploring. Would recommend if you're the type that likes to explore and build something from the ground up.

Multiplayer plays well, helping out friends in their save file is always a treat. I would love it if our progression on our character can carry onto other player's worlds.

I'd also like it if we can progress the dialogue from the main story faster, it's such a slog trying to wait for the A button to appear to continue. I'm a fast reader so it can make me feel impatient.

The game is on a good start and I look forward to the future optimizations and updates the development team will bring. Keep it up guys!

Capcom has raised the bar of what should be in a fighting game that hopefully other developers will pick up on.
The online plays great with the rollback netcode, you can even tell if a user is on ethernet or on wi-fi!

World Tour is some stupid fun, love the character customization and the goofy plotline. Even the best PCs might have a hard time keeping this mode running at a stable framerate sadly.

The actual matches when going into online or local battles runs buttery smooth even on my Steam Deck!

Modern controls are pretty intuitive, you get to execute some special commands on the fly at the cost of losing some normal buttons and a damage reduction when you use the shortcuts. Currently I'm ranked Platinum 3 with Juri on Modern Controls.

Overall, I would highly recommend this game if you are looking to get into fighting games or a seasoned veteran of the genre. There's something to do for everyone!

The only thing as good as Resident Evil 4 is Resident Evil 4.

Edit: Got all achievements in this game. Still correct on the original comment.

Fun game but EA is dumb and requires you to be online even if you're playing single player.

Story and gameplay loop is excellent! It's satisfying to get headshots and thanks to Steam Overlay, I used gyro controls for aiming.

It's playable on Steam Deck when I turn the settings to low, limit the FPS to 30, and turned the TDP usage to 12. No upscaling. You can get away with setting everything to medium settings at the early-mid stage of the game. It will hiccup a lot when it's loading more assets into the game and I have crashed a few times using fast travel. The endgame is where it got really bad however where it had the FPS dip down to 10 - 15 on Steam Deck, I was able to get through it but boy it was jarring. I played through it again with no limits to the power usage and it still dipped to very low frames

I can't really recommend this PC port as there are clear issues where Guerilla hasn't addressed it still but it is still playable if you can tolerate the frame dips. Highly recommend it if you are able to play it on PS4/PS5 for a smoother experience.
