I really like the premise of Soulmask and the new spin on the survival genre through the mask/body-swapping abilities.. however, the I just cant give Soulmask a thumbs up.

The game is so punishing to players who are playing solo or in small groups, especially when players cant log on everyday. I had a dedicated server setup for a small group of friends and even with the community recommended server settings in place, we were constantly losing tribesman - either from tribesman dying from hunger/hydration, getting stolen or dying from using them to even just explore the areas.

While I understand that the developers have stated that Soulmask is recommended for 4+ multiplayer, the game still states that it is a single player game. There is just to much imbalance while trying to play single player, progress is too difficult and tribesman micromanagement requires the player to babysit them else they die.

I have had a lot of experience playing survival games and while I really wanted to like this game, I just cant deal with the frustration of always losing tribesmen, and in turn, stable progression.

A hidden item game that focus on the artwork of James Edouard - The use of the artwork, music and finding the items makes this short game a pleasure to experience.

I rarely come across a game that has such interesting game mechanics or a gorgeous art style, but also incorporates a heartwarming story line. The game isn’t long, around 5 hours, but is able to engage and grow in such a short amount of game time. Bravo to the developers!

I have been having a blast playing this game with another friend, each taking charge of 2 characters and progressing through the 'beginner' campaign.

Not only has the mechanics and visual style of the game fantastic, but the humour in the story writing and way the characters change as things happen to them, had us both shocked and entertained - at one point I had a spell user that couldn’t hold a staff as he had lose his left arm in a previous battle. Very immersive!

I took a quick look at the editor that is included and it is complex and robust - for someone with a bit of time, a fantastic campaign could be created.

Well worth the cost and terribly entertaining when playing with friends.
